To think only thin people can be graceful and glamorous

I've always wanted to look graceful, but no matter how hard I try I know I don't. The glamorous people I see are always slim, tall and well groomed, and it's made me think it's hard to be glamorous if you're short, curvy and big breasted!

I've accepted I'll always look a clumsy mess Blush

Nah, YABU. I am a twig. A small unfit one that would snap if it attempted any physical activity. I am not graceful, glam or sophisticated. I am a creep! Most people say.
Grace and glamour come from within.

formerbabe · 02/06/2018 14:59

Short, curvy and big boobed here too Grin

Yes, I totally agree with you op.

I saw another mum at an activity today. She wasn't even especially attractive but she was very slim, tall and willowy. She looked so elegant and put together. She had a simple outfit on, jeans, plain jumper, boots and jacket. Same outfit on me...I'd have looked like a busty barmaid from a carry on film!

Mousefunky · 02/06/2018 14:59

YABU. Plenty of graceful curvy celebs. I find curves to be incredibly glamorous and graceful.

mimibunz · 02/06/2018 15:03

Geez Ollivander84 you’re insanely beautiful!

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 02/06/2018 15:08

Yabu, I am size 14 and do modelling sometimes. I do wish I was slimmer but I am curvy and have a very pretty face. Never short of attention.

WittyJack · 02/06/2018 15:12

YANBU.

I think grace requires long, slim bodies and limbs, and a certain way of moving. The graceful women I know are all good dancers, I am sure that's no coincidence. Tall slim ladies also find glamour easy, IMO.

But shorter, curvier people can be just as glamourous and sexy!

Ollivander84 · 02/06/2018 15:12

mimi Blush
Without makeup and my hair up I look like a fat potato Grin

Rabbitjam · 02/06/2018 15:13

Dawn French is so glamorous!

StealthNinjaMum · 02/06/2018 15:14

I think it depends on your proportions. I am very short and quite slim but have big boobs so finding clothes that make me look well groomed is almost impossible. I see many larger women than me who do find clothes that fit properly and look good.

StealthNinjaMum · 02/06/2018 15:16

I really struggle with jackets / Blazers / cardigans and so even if I wear a nice dress I have nothing nice to go over it. Maybe I should ask the wise ladies of style and beauty for some advice on that.

lljkk · 02/06/2018 15:16

Adele's a big gal & she's quite glam. Serena Williams is nobody's skinny minny but I don't think anyone is glammer. Lots to see if you google plus-size glamorous.

To think only thin people can be graceful and glamorous
PoorYorick · 02/06/2018 15:21

Google dictionary:

Graceful: having or showing grace or elegance.

(Grace: smoothness and elegance of movement. Elegance: the quality of being graceful and stylish in appearance or manner.)

Glamorous: having glamour.

(Glamour: an attractive or exciting quality that makes certain people or things seem appealing / beauty or charm that is sexually attractive.)

I don't see the words "slim" or "thin" anywhere in the definitions. Or in the word "beauty" ("a combination of qualities, such as shape, colour, or form, that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially the sight", since you asked).

formerbabe · 02/06/2018 15:23

Looking glamorous can be done irrespective of size.

Elegance not so much.

dangermouseisace · 02/06/2018 15:25

YABU. I’m slim but could never be glamorous. I used to go clubbing with 2 plus size girls who I thought were the epitome of glamorous. Well dressed in clothes that fitted and were flattering, with perfect make up and hair, and they were beautiful as well.

formerbabe · 02/06/2018 15:29

You can be plus size and look amazing but it's more work. Your make up must be perfect, ditto hair and clothes. If you're slim, you can stick your hair in a messy bun, minimal make up and more casual clothes and look ok. However if you're larger and don't make an effort, it's far more obvious and less forgiving.

I know a larger woman. She always looks great. Naturally pretty but a lot of effort. Never seen her dressed down or no make up.

readyforapummelling · 02/06/2018 15:32

Meh I'm slim and look like Worzel Gummidge (sp?) half the time. I try to be glam and graceful but that's a losing battle with a 15 month old. More likely to catch me picking knickers outta my ass than sweeping my hair over my shoulder gracefully.

robotcartrainhat · 02/06/2018 15:43

YABU what about all those old school screen sirens.. they are glamorous and also curvy! Nigella Lawson is pretty glam and I think Kirsty Alsopp is also... Christina Hendricks is utterly gorgeous, shes not overweight but you couldnt call her 'thin' could you?

FreeMantle · 02/06/2018 15:43

I'm not sure thin always looks elegant either. I think some thin people can look a big clunky when they move. I have a lovely thin friend who does ballet but she moves like it costs her effort.
Hour glass can look amazing at any size.

robotcartrainhat · 02/06/2018 15:47

plus im pretty slender and flat chested (or at least I was before I was this heavily pregnant) and I look a state compared to some larger women.. I have a close friend who is ridiculously beautiful, she has these pointed cat like features and heart shaped face.... shes several sizes larger than me.. must be about a 16-18 dress size but her body is so perfectly formed.. like her arms are sort of rounded in this lush way, its not just flab hanging off like it would be if I put on loads of weight... she just really suits her size... I think some people do and can look very graceful

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 02/06/2018 15:54

Speaking as a tall, slim person who is clumsy and far from glamorous, I think YABU.

I have friends who are curvy and in some cases overweight, but who are definitely graceful, stylish and glamorous. As far as the glamour, they work harder at it than I do, and have better taste. As far as being graceful, I think it is a gift from God. And I did something awful in a past life.

SussexMedley · 02/06/2018 16:06

Well, if plus sized people aren't graceful and glamorous, it must be because this lady got their share.

ethelfleda · 02/06/2018 18:44

This thread got me thinking. Out of all the women I know, the most elegant and graceful and glam is my MIL and she isn't quite 5ft tall. She isn't at all overweight but not 'Thin' she always looks immaculate. I think it is something you sometimes have to spend time on to achieve. I am clumsy and scruffy most of the time - am 5'7" a size 10 - I have a flat stomach and an hour glass shape but I always look like a tramp and have resting bitch face so never look appealing... Even though I am told I am pretty!

Pinkroses18 · 02/06/2018 21:51

Ollivander84 Stunning photo.

MsMotherOfDragons · 02/06/2018 21:56

Can I just say, even if I was a size 8 I would never be graceful or glamourous. There's more to it than size!

LotsToThinkOf · 02/06/2018 21:58

I can't say I look at larger people and consider them unglam or clumsy, but when I lose weight the first thing I notice is that I feel more glam and elegant. I think it is to do with how we perceive ourselves rather than being a specific size or shape.
