To ask you what’s good from Lidl?

Always done the weekly shop at Sainsbury’s- but to be honest the quality hasn’t been very good for a while, and I’m in a financial pickle for the next few months (Emergency taxed for no apparent reason last month and will be again this month, and couple of big unexpected costs have come in)

So heigh ho off to Lidl I go. Need to
reduce costs anyway- have always been shit with money, and had a short sharp shock since I became a LP on a quite low pro rata salary (after years of a v good salary).

So what’s good? It’s just me and the toddler to shop for. I’m gluten free and low carb, toddler loves fruit and cheese particularly.

Of course I love wine. Haven’t bought any recently due to the aforementioned poverty, but could definitely do with a sub £10 treat (with my birthday money before I get a lecture!!!)

Also what’s good for cleaning products? Which seem astronomically expensive everywhere at the mo.

TIA

Oh, we all love Lidl! The bakery is great, (but probably not what you're after if you're low carbing) the meat is of excellent quality and is far cheaper than anywhere else, the salad items are great, tins of baked beans, love the cheese and charcuterie and yoghurts. The loo roll is good, milk lasts forever, the Cien Cellular Beauty day cream is amazing, laundry and cleaning stuff good quality and cheap, nappies are really good, (although not a fan of their baby wipes) mini stollen at Christmas is AMAZING, best priced sushi rice I've found anywhere.

And then there's the Middle Aisle of Wonder which is a sight to behold.

Currently drinking aldi £4.99 prosecco and honestly cannot tell the difference between this and more expensive stuff in Mayfair restaurants

We’ve just done a shop at Lidl this evening, we also normally use Sainsbury’s. This is the second time we’ve been to Lidl. I’m a bit sad and i’ve literally added up how much everything would have been in the Sainsbury’s app after I’ve shopped at Lidl. Both times we’ve saved about £15 (ie we would normally spend about £60 and it’s been £45).

Quality-wise, based on the one shop we’ve consumed (not started on today’s shop yet), everything was really yummy and at least as good as sainsbury’s.

The extra nutty granola about £1.99 a pack and leaves all the £3+ posh saw dust muesli to shame.

I used to do that a few years back, after an Aldi shop, using Tesco prices - it made me very happy! Savings then were c 40% - not quite do much now (because quite a lot of Tesco prices on things I buy have come down)

Haha glad it’s not just me!

Lidl is WAY cheaper than Sainsburys. I like their vegetable crisps, own make Magnum ice creams, pizzas are good and the creme fraiche potato salad x

LalaLeona · 02/06/2018 21:48

Lidl prosecco is not bad either!

fizzandchips · 02/06/2018 21:52

Fruit
Veg
Extra mature cheddar
Ham
Jam (I used to buy Bonne Maman, but can’t justify it as Lidl is almost as good and less than half the price).

Peppered salami!

I agree about the fruit and veg it’s hit and miss. One week I ended up buying it from Sainsbury’s as the quality was so bad, but the following week was great.

The mini magnums are great as pp stated. Good for the dc, and a bargain price.
