To ask for a hand hold?

My lovely, lovely MIL has just been hospitalised due to a pulmonary embolism.

She's in her fifties, very fit and healthy otherwise.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Are rates of recovery good, how long does it take, are there long term lasting consequences?

I'm worried sick and my poor DH is terribly upset and anxious.

I don’t have any experience but am here with Flowers for you. Hoping everything will be alright.

sorry, no experience, hand hold here. Hope everything turns out ok. Flowers

Thank you both Flowers 😞 She's having tests done today so we will hopefully know more after that. From looking online it seems that recovery rates are good if no complications so I'm just holding on to that. Feel so sorry for her as she's in lots of pain. Going to see her today if she's up to it which I think will make DH feel better.

I had bilateral pulmonary embolisms during my last pregnancy. I'm absolutely fine now and hopefully your MIL will be too. They'll have her on some medication to dissolve the clot and stop new ones forming - depending on what caused the clot she may need to take longer term medication.

Thanks so much lilly, that's really reassuring!

I have lost family to PEs, however another relative had one recently as is doing well. she is in best possible place. Flowers

I don’t know much about them but a quick search and it looks like if it’s treated quickly and early the prognosis is good.

I hope she’s ok. We had a terrible scare with my father and pneumonia (bloody lungs! 🙄) and it’s the most helpless position to be in.

Thoughts are with you Flowers

Everything crossed for a quick improvement.

Sending you a handhold.

Talking from personal experience I’ve had 6 clots on both lungs and I’m still here, unfortunately a family member wasn’t so lucky however 9 times out of 10 it means long term medication with a good outcome I can sympathise it’s awfully uncomfortable and hard to get a deep breath
