Drone flying over garden

ginforall · 01/06/2018 20:20

This afternoon a drone was being flown over our garden, one of the ones with a camera on it. It was directly above our garden, we were sat eating lunch at the time but could clearly see it out the patio doors and through the skylights at the back of the kitchen, meaning it could most likely see into our house. Aibu to think this is a massive invasion of privacy? Not sure where it was from, there are many gardens in close proximity to ours where it could have been flown from, so not sure what I can do about it? Just wondered if anyone had encountered similar?

This wouldn't bother me at all to be honest. Unless you're famous and worried about the paparazzi, I can't see why the owner of the drone would be particularly interested in you eating dinner!

Most people's homes are overlooked in some way unless you're in a massive detached house and I doubt they had a particular interest in you. Unless it's happening all the time or flying so low that it's dangerous I wouldn't worry too much. I imagine the buzzing noise of it is mildly annoying but then so are hedge strimmers and lawn mowers!

siwel123 · 01/06/2018 20:38

Most likely wasn't looking at you.

If it continues then make a complaint. There's also rules on flying drones so maybe Google and check them out.

TooTrueToBeGood · 01/06/2018 20:39

There's no laws against firing catapults in your own garden is there?? 😂😂

simonisnotme · 01/06/2018 20:40

its flying illegally, it should be at least 50 mt from buildings or people

We have had this, it's very noisy and disturbing especially when directly above you ! I found my ndn' s air gun was very effective. I've now mounted it on the fence as a warning

simonisnotme · 01/06/2018 20:42

we had one flying above a neighbours house they were doing ariel shots to put on house selling site

Claystone · 01/06/2018 20:43

We had one over our garden last Sunday when DD was sunbathing. It was clearly being a nuisance. Eventually she went into the house. It's horrible, intrusive and creepy.

Growingboys · 01/06/2018 20:44

We found an upside down drone like a dead fly, on its back in our garden, with its lights flashing the other day.

I left it there and enjoyed watching the rain pour down on it for a couple of days, then when I was sure it was dead I put it out with the rubbish.

Very annoying invasion of privacy.

Bluelady · 01/06/2018 20:45

Surveyors are using them now to enable roof inspections.

Beansprout30 · 01/06/2018 20:51

My neighbours kid flies one occasionally and it lingers over our garden. I hate the bloody thing, he's just being a kid but I find them irritating and intrusive

ginforall · 01/06/2018 20:51

Thanks for the responses. It was very low over our garden and I did find it very intrusive. My ds said it was flying over before lunch too whilst he was outside playing. Don't really like the idea of people potentially filming my kids in the garden, (even though we are not celebrities Smile) . If it happens again I will try and determine where it has come from.

I think you need to play a ball game

Those things should be banned.

W0rriedMum · 01/06/2018 21:00

I have heard of drones being flown over houses to check for open back doors and unoccupied houses. A ball game is a good idea..

Hissy · 01/06/2018 21:01

Can you shoot these things down with a nerf?

I'm really really bad at watering the garden with a hosepipe. (Sad story. Grew up in an area that had a pretty much constant hosepipe ban. Never got to hone my skills.) I would choose the exact time a drone started hovering over my garden to get some practice in!

GladAllOver · 01/06/2018 21:08

If it has a camera it must be 150m from people or property, not 50m.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 01/06/2018 21:08

I'll probably send the dogs out to bark at it.

LighthouseSouth · 01/06/2018 21:16

If it's looking into the house it's not just a privacy issue, it's also checking what you've got that's worth stealing.

PapaLazarousWife · 01/06/2018 21:36

If it's flying low that's dangerous and against the law. A surveyer would have to get a license to fly professionally and would know the law so it's probably kids messing about or someone that doesn't know what they're doing. If it happens again you could report it via 101.

CruCru · 01/06/2018 21:39

Wet a tea towel then fling it at it.

Takfujuimoto · 01/06/2018 21:42

It's about that time of year to get some super soakers isn't it?

Idgie · 01/06/2018 21:42

As far as I know there's only guidance on how they should be flown in residential areas. Unless there's a law I don't know about?

iheartmichellemallon · 01/06/2018 21:47

I'd shoot it down with an air gun if I could - massive invasion of privacy!

ginforall · 01/06/2018 22:04

Glad to know I'm not the only one who finds them so intrusive. Sure it probably is just kids messing around, will see if it continues.

How about getting your own super drone (huge and heavy) and trying to learn to fly it when the visitor arrives? Not your fault if you mess up and knock the visiting drone out of the sky is it? Grin
