GP thinks I have it, I think I do too - blood test will confirm. I’m due to start my first placement of final year of medical school on Monday after a year off to have DS2. It’s a three hour round trip each day. Have a three year old and a ten month old. DH works shifts and has just been promoted so limited capacity for taking the strain with childcare on evenings and weekends. I have no idea wtf to do. I got out of bed for two hours earlier while DH slept before a night shift and spent it all lying on the sofa, and it’s utterly wiped me out. I now can’t even sit up without feeling nauseous and dizzy. If I can’t make this placement I’ll have to defer for another year which would be an absolute nightmare for all kinds of reasons. Please tell me your positive stories of people who had it who recovered quickly and didn’t have to put their lives on hold for months, which is all I’ve had all day - from the GP, friends, my mother. I’m so miserable currently.

If you're too ill to do it, you're too ill. Pushing yourself to get back before you're recovered is a REALLY bad idea.

I had it when I was 17. It only lasted about a week to ten days. I was all better and back to normal by the time I got the blood test results back from the gp.
I hope it’s quick for you too!

My daughter had GF and raging tonsillitis at the start of her Final A Level year. Took a week for her to be able to stop sleeping and another after that to be able to function normally (ish) again. Ten months later she still gets the odd flare up if she’s over done things but nothing a good night’s sleep doesn’t cure. The advice now is that once you’re over the worst to get back to normal as much as you can. Lying in bed increases the fatigue apparently. And avoid too much alcohol!

I’m sure you’ll be fine. Stock up on multivits!

My eldest sons dad had it when we were 16. He was out of it for about 4 days, then within 2 weeks he was okay. For a year or two after he seemed to suffer with viruses/viral infections more than he had, but then that settled down.
Can you start your placement a few weeks later? Good Luck!

I got it at age 40.Doctor said it's usually a young persons complaint. He called it the kissing disease.I worked in university halls, certainly hadn't been kissing students 😊
I felt so ill, so tired and sick, the sore throat was the worst i have ever experienced.I had to have a month off work.It came back a couple of months later but only mildly this time.
Take care, get as much rest as you can.Hope you feel better soon

I think you need to be careful and listen to your body. Your career is high stress with constant exposure to lots of pathogens. You have a young family who will also bring home lots of viral infections. You will likely be more susceptible to infections after this and the factors I have mentioned may affect the speed of your recovery.

It took me 2 years to recover somewhat from glandular fever and 5 years in total because I did not stop when I should have listened to my body.

You have a young family who need you. Taking another year out might not be easy, but if it prevents you being debilitated long term it will be worth it.

Thanks sparkling She finally got seen about 10pm, got diagnosed with tonsillitis and was given antibiotics, codeine and a throat spray. She rang me again on Saturday after sleeping for 14 hours solid feeling a lot better and a whole less tearful. She was just so tired and so run down that everything was upsetting her.

I hope this is the start of her recovery.

Great news Mycats. Hopefully she will continue to improve. Flowers

Glad your DD is doing better mycats!

I think I overdid things yesterday- was up (albeit mostly on the sofa) for most of the day and today I can’t face getting out of bed. So fed up!
