To not understand Zoflora?

I like nice smelling cleaning products - not lemon or pine, nice soft scents. I usually buy lavender Flash.

My cleaning reigeme consists of bleach for the loo and loo floor, flash for the other floors and hard surfaces, antibacterial spray and washing up liquid.

On a whim the other day I bought Zoflora when Flas was out of stock.

I genuinely don't understand where to use it? I can't use it on kitchen surfaces (says so on the bottle) it's not a 'soap' so doesn't actually clean dirt on floors - just sterilises as far as I can work out (why would I do a second mop to sterilise my clean floor?? Again, as per bottle instructions)

OK I can chuck it down the loo neat - but it costs a bloody fortune and the bottle is tiny, compared to cheap bleach it seems such a waste!

So please, tell me IABU and all the wondrous things I can do now I am the proud owner of a bottle of bluebell Zoflora?!

(yes I probably ABU to not have thought off this before I bought it, but I was distracted by a toddler...)

When something has seeped out of the compostable liner in the outdoor food waste bin, the only thing that gets rid of the rancid smell is a good splash of zoflora and hot water.

ladymabel · 01/06/2018 10:15

Ecover products - far better and less chemically than zoflora

lamerde · 01/06/2018 10:18

Jesus OP. Just google it.

It has so many uses.

I remember when the craze first came about a few years back. I thought it was the best thing since sliced bread (in cleaning terms). I quickly got bored of it however and now I only seem to use it to disinfect the dish sponges and cloths overnight. Dilute in a washing bowl btw. People seem to go crazy with it, using it like some sort of air freshner when its actually just a disinfectant. I personally think rhubarb method spray is a much nicer, lighter, non chemically fragrance than any zoflora so that that now my go to product.

ghostyslovesheets · 01/06/2018 11:46

my cats walk on it with no problem - add it to a mop bucket - water tends to clean stuff Hmm and Zoflora disinfects - job done

not sure what there is to understand?

Ofthread · 01/06/2018 11:51

Disinfectants are very toxic to cats, better to use a regular floor cleaner like flash etc. on floors.

MissMarplesKnitting · 01/06/2018 11:53

One can go ott with it.

Very useful for sinks, germy things like dishcloths etc

With you on method for kitchen etc. I have oak worktops and love the Waitrose eucalyptus and grapefruit spray. I have delusions of expensive house grandeur because it smells soooo posh!

firehousedog · 01/06/2018 11:54

On the other hand cats seem to love the smell of bleach. You should see my cat roll around on the floor after I've put bleach down the loo.

Pinktails · 01/06/2018 12:02

Dilute a good glug of it in warm soapy water { about 3 or 4 pints should do} and
chuck said water in empty refuse/recycle bins to keep flies away.
Most of the liquid will have evaporated before bin emptying day comes round.

WhiteCoyote · 01/06/2018 12:02

I’m a self confessed zoflora fan - use it for everything except the kitchen worktops. It’s nice to have one inexpensive product that does everything, it does my head in to have one cleaning product for the shower, one for the floors, one for the sinks etc.

When the bottle is done I’m going to switch to an eco friendly cleaner, but I’ll still keep some around for the bin the nappies go in.

lifechangesforever · 01/06/2018 12:36

I use it on kitchen counters all the time, diluted in a spray bottle. I also use it down drains (neat), in the fridge, to clean out the bin, on floors, in the shower.. list goes on.

Never realised about the vacuum though - interesting!

19lottie82 · 01/06/2018 12:46

It’s not a cleaning product as such, and not an alternative to flash. It won’t clean greasy worktops ect. It’s an antibacterial product. Look on it as dettol but nicer smelling. It kills germs and makes things smell nice.

MissMalteser · 01/06/2018 13:14

I put a squirt in my mop bucket with some washing up liquid so it’s soapy and smells good, the cotton pad in the vac, use for dishcloths in the evening, in the washing machine when doing a service wash, I also use it in my steam mop and it makes the whole floor smell lovely but I think it flammable so I’m not recommending lol just saying that I do.
Agree that method rhubarb is amazing and there’s another all purpose (eucalyptus?) method product that does everything including mirrors etc and smells amazing, ooh also the almond wood polish! Actually just scrap the zoflora and go stock up on method 😂

ToadOfSadness · 01/06/2018 13:38

It is horrible, headache inducing, toxic stuff, like Febreze. I don't 'get it' either, just clean your house and wash your laundry and you won't need all these artificial poisons. Has the same effect on me as those manky reed diffusers that take the skin off pets and cause rashes.

AnoiaUnstickMyDrawers · 03/06/2018 10:42

Slightly bemused by a couple of posters who seem personally offended that I'm not immediately dousing my house in it and wearing it as a perfume Hmm

Anyway... Some really good tips, thank you. I don't think it will be replacing my usual cleaners, but things like putting it in the hoover, or in with a load of DPs stinky work gear is definitely a good idea.

I come from a food industry background, so to me 'food contact' pretty much means anything that's not the floor Grin so I appreciate I've misunderstood the instructions there. Also, commercial cleaning drums into you that sanitiser is only used on already clean (with agitation and detergent) surfaces, so again, a preconception that may not be relevant here.

I'm not the sort that uses anti bac on everything, just a few key areas, I'm definitely of the opinion that DDs developing immune system needs exposure to some germs. I guess I'm just not Zoflora's target market!

I know this is an old thread, but I need to get this off my chest.

I absolutely HATE the smell of Zoflora. Fricking stinking, minking, rottenness.

I do love the smell of fresh/lavender essential oil, so maybe Mumsnet isn't the place for me. 😁

DontCallMeShitley · 10/08/2019 01:11

I agree Dame. Old thread it may be but Zoflora is still disgusting, toxic, poisonous crud and not good for the environment.

NarcolepticOuchMouse · 10/08/2019 01:22

They do a pet safe one we use to clean our patio 🐶🐶

Pinkout · 10/08/2019 01:25

I don’t chop food on kitchen surfaces anyway, I have a chopping board for that Confused. I dilute zoflora in a spray bottle and use it everywhere, also add it to my mop bucket and mop the floors with it. Works a treat and I like the smell of the fruity ones.
