To think you can get a bit stuck when you have kids

I have 2 young kids 6 & 10 but really want to move to a new area. I also have a very flexible job earning 40k a year that lets me work from home a bit so I can do some school pick ups. But we rent hence wanting to re-locate.
I am just not sure how I will ever have the flexibility that I have now. I also worry about my kids being settled and uprooting them- particularly the eldest.
Aibu to think you can get really stuck? I really want a new life - to get out of the expensive city we live in- but feel stuck by circumstance!

Your children aren’t too old to move now. I’d do it the summer your 10 year old leaves primary school when all their friends move to different schools.

You have to be brave and get on with it! Research what you need to move and go for it. It is daunting but doable.

It is more difficult with kids, as your primary worry will be finding school places for both of them close to where you live. If you want to move out of a city, you also have the added worry of adequate childcare and transport to/ from said schools (an issue when they move to secondary and should take themselves, but in some semi-rural areas, public transport is a joke).

It's not impossible, though, just do your research well. If you can afford to wait some time, look at areas offering everything you want, phone up local schools about spaces in the relevant year groups and work out how you'd get your kids there in good time. Then wait it out until a property becomes available.

It is harder, but can be done.

My boys are currently both under two and I've already started strategically planning my move for six years time. I definitely think it's a bit more of a logistical nightmare. One business, one job, one house, two kidd

Thanks - am going to do a bit of planning before 10 year old goes to secondary next year
