Would you consider £25k to be a good salary

I would. I live in London and would love to earn that much. Most of my friends living on London are on £20k or under (some have kids)

Your thoughts?

It depends what you do 25k I believe is the average income

If you are a doctor I would say no if your a lab tech I would say yes

Singlenotsingle · 31/05/2018 21:59

Depends what qualifications you've got and what you do...

Turnocks34 · 31/05/2018 21:59

I think it’s ok. I wouldn’t say it’s a bad salary at all, but I wouldn’t be happy if that was my maximum earning potential personally.

That said I’m a teacher so my salary isn’t ever going to be absolutely outstanding either 😂😂

midnightmisssuki · 31/05/2018 21:59

Depends on outgoings, mortgage, lifestyle etc. I live in London and to me - that wouldn’t be enough. We have two kids and two dogs.

French2019 · 31/05/2018 22:00

Well, I guess it depends on the job and the person. For a young person with no experience or qualifications, doing an entry level job, I guess it would be quite good. However, it's a bit below the national average, isn't it, so it's a bit difficult to see it as a "good" salary more generally.

BackforGood · 31/05/2018 22:01

Depends on so many things.
Your qualifications.
How long you've been without earning, in order to earn those qualifications.
Your age
Your experience
Your responsibilities
If you need compensating for bad things about the job - be that anti social hours, or working somewhere filthy, or being in danger, or whatever.

Notcontent · 31/05/2018 22:01

Well, i don’t think it’s possible to live on that much in London without state help (unless you are single and just renting a room) so no, I don’t think that’s a good salary.

stopgap · 31/05/2018 22:01

I’d say it’s okay. I certainly lived on that (twenty years ago) as a single woman in London. But it only afforded me a room in a flat, which wouldn’t suit me in my early forties.

Mousefunky · 31/05/2018 22:02

Not a bad salary, it was my starting salary as a teacher. Depends on your age really and your outgoings. It won’t stretch as far in London as it does in Leeds.

AutoFilled · 31/05/2018 22:02

I think that’s very low. It would be what we pay a new graduate outside of London.

tappitytaptap · 31/05/2018 22:02

It wouldn't be enough for me and I live in the North, purely because of the industry I'm in and the qualifications I have. I earn over twice that working a 4 day week. However you could definitely live off it where I live, I think, so in that respect not a bad salary. I'd struggle in London though I think without being seriously frugal.

Frosty66612 · 31/05/2018 22:03

I’m on that much and I live in a cheap Midlands town so it allows me to live comfortably. Most of my friends earn at least 10k more than me though

tillytoodles1 · 31/05/2018 22:03

Not really, especially in London.

Is this per month? Probably just about ok if that is the case

hidinginthenightgarden · 31/05/2018 22:04

I'm in the north and would consider it average.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 31/05/2018 22:04

Not really, no.

MissMildred · 31/05/2018 22:04

Depends on qualifications, what you're doing and the context. If you have DCs and work term time and the hours suit your life balance, it's okay. If you have a partner earning a decent amount too, it goes much further.
For a full-time job in London, I would have thought it was on the low side.

Mrsknackered · 31/05/2018 22:05

Yes, I earn nothing (student) and my partner is on 20k. We get tax credits and stuff so that helps a lot, but if we were both on 25k we would have a completely different lifestyle.

Not likely to happen anytime soon, I’ll be on around 20k when I qualify and DP is starting a new (very wanted) job soon but the pay is around that mark still.

rubyclover · 31/05/2018 22:05

I don't think it's that great tbh.

I'm in a graduate entry level type position now and earn 24 k (not London based). Can't say I'd be too happy if that was the maximum I'd ever get to.

That said money isn't everything and one of the happiest people i know earns 17 k

AutoFilled · 31/05/2018 22:05

In fact I’m not wrong, a quick search shows it’s definitely a fresh graduate salary and some are paying more than that for new graduates.

www.jobsite.co.uk/jobs/graduate-software-developer/in-london?radius=10

It seems from what others said is also the new grad salary for teachers.

Heroo · 31/05/2018 22:05

It’s all relative isn’t it.

£25k if you have no qualifications or skills? Yes that’s good.

LoveInTokyo · 31/05/2018 22:05

No, I’d consider it a low salary (especially in London).

Heroo · 31/05/2018 22:06

Or the base salary as a new grad? Yes it’s fine.

EmmaC78 · 31/05/2018 22:06

I definately would not so good. I would say it is ok for a lot of people but I would personally hope to have more earning potential than that.
