AIBU to play a trumpet in the car park

I work in a big industrial estate with a large car park. I’m relearning the trumpet and I was thinking about parking a bit away from the office and getting in a ten minute practice during lunch break.

What would you think if you saw me?

I used to play the trumpet and l used to keep one in the car so that l could practise when l was stuck in traffic!

Get a Harmon mute, though, just so you don't disturb anyone. Good luck with it!

That you were showing off....sorru

ComtesseDeSpair · 31/05/2018 21:42

It would make me laugh if I saw you, but in a good way Smile I don't see why not - if anyone asks why you're playing the trumpet in a car park you just explain why and make a joke of it.

This also reminds me of a former finance job I had where I was responsible for auditing the expenses of everyone in a large national organisation. My favourite ever was somebody who expensed a solo trumpeter to stand outside the refurbished office and welcome all staff in as they arrived.

My first reaction would be to think you were bananas. I'd probably ask you about it if I bumped into you later, then wish I had your don't-give-a-fuck-ness.

If I thought you were good I would be impressed. If I liked the music you were playing, I'd be impressed X1000.

AllMYSmellySocks · 31/05/2018 21:52

I think I'd find it funny and it would brighten my day a bit.

Mirrorwriting · 31/05/2018 22:21

I’m no good. Horrid farting noises, but over the sound of traffic not too loud at all.

Do it. I practice my music as much as I can wherever I can.

That's how you improve.

PenCreed · 31/05/2018 22:29

My old boss used to play the trumpet in his office at lunchtime! He did have his own office in a corner with a store on the other side though. I say do it.

Witchend · 31/05/2018 22:30

Put a cap out and a notice that says "When I get to £50 I will find another place to practice."

MrsCD67 · 31/05/2018 23:28

I'd chuckle and think 'wow I actually admire that...good on them!'

LilMadAgain · 31/05/2018 23:32

If it isn't illegal just crack on and enjoy yourself. I crochet on public transport, haven't been arrested or beaten up yet.

TimeToDash · 31/05/2018 23:41

Good for you, I would say that showed individuality and initiative (please get a mute till you're good though!) 😉

5foot5 · 31/05/2018 23:47

Sounds like a great idea and unlikely to disturb anyone . Good use of a lunch hour. I wish I could do that but I play the trombone so I think that would be tricky in a VW Polo.

Herbalteahippie · 01/06/2018 00:05

I would want to join in and jam with you sister! x

Herbalteahippie · 01/06/2018 00:06

I personally think the trumpet is great way to cheer up a car park. You do your thang YANBU

DesignStatement · 01/06/2018 00:46

I'd think good on you ~ a rare treat.

agnurse · 01/06/2018 01:25

As long as you're doing it in your car and you're not too loud I don't think there should be an issue. The music conservatory where my brother teaches had, or at least used to have, a bagpipe ensemble. They had to practice in the car park due to the noise level.

AgentProvocateur · 01/06/2018 01:26

My friend does this - but with bagpipes!! Grin
