Hot Food

I'm looking to book a holiday and was perusing some Trip Advisor reviews revies Grin in order to get a feel for some of the hotels (I know, I know, Trip Advisor is a whole other thread).

Every single one of them made reference to the temperature of the food (COLD! NOT HOT ENOUGH! HAD TO USE MICROWAVE! FREEZING! CAUGHT MY DEATH!). It reminded me that I'd also made polite conversation with a grandparent the other day, who was singing the praises of a Lakeland platewarmer (in a friendly but Bucket-ish way).

I can't stand hot/overheated food because (a) burnt tongue (b) burnt hands from the fucking plate warmers (c) burnt children (d) can't taste the food because I'm too busy jumping from foot to foot screaming 'HOT! HOTTER THAN THE SUN!'. It's a supremely unpleasant experience.

AIBU to prefer a nice plate of cold sandwiches?

There is a massive difference between food that is meant to be eaten hot being cold and it being burning hot though!

I wouldn’t want a cold spaghetti bolagnase or roast dinner that’s for sure.

Cold roast meat is pretty delicious! As are cold roasties and cold yorkshires!

YANBU, I only ever eat lukewarm and cold foods.

ShackUp · 31/05/2018 14:13

'I had a beautiful meal, it was piping hot'. Yes, and you've got scar tissue the length of your oesophagus...

Also, no-one actually eats piping hot food, do they? Unless they've got a digestive tract fashioned out of asbestos, they blow on their food first to cool it down. It just seems like another thing to make a massive fuss over on tripadvisor

I'm the same OP. My DH loves food super hot. He cooks beans and tinned custard until they're boiling over and even poking the spoonful with the tip of your tongue gives you blisters 😡

You're wrong. Hot food should be served piping hot. It's horrible when it's served lukewarm and you know it'll be basically cold by the time you've finished. You obviously have to take it easy to begin with, but with practice it is possible to avoid injuring oneself by shovelling scalding hot material directly into the face.

ShackUp · 31/05/2018 14:22

malmi but by definition it can't be hot by the time it reaches your mouth, otherwise we'd all be burnt to a crisp! What's wrong with cooled-down lasagne?

But things that are cooked properly are hot.

Some things should reach a certain temperature to make sure it doesn't make you sick.

Luke warm food means it's either sat around for a while or not been cooked for long enough

Sirzy · 31/05/2018 14:25

If it’s too hot when it comes out then wait a few minutes to start eating.

vampirethriller · 31/05/2018 14:25

Cooled down food is fine as long as it was piping hot to begin with. I don't like really hot food either, but from a restaurant or cafe I'd expect piping hot, because I like food poisoning even less!

Myotherusernameisbest · 31/05/2018 14:28

I like my hot food to be hot when I start eating it and not luke warm. luke warm suggests its been standing around for a while

DerelictWreck · 31/05/2018 14:33

I'm of the opinion that all foods taste better cold Blush especially having been heated and now leftovers - I'm looking at you cold breakfast lasagne

Roussette · 31/05/2018 14:33

I loathe lukewarm food and loathe even more cold plates. That means I can take my time eating, and at the end the food will still be hot, and not stone cold.
