Neighbour's number

We live at 105. Our neighbour lives at 105A. Over the years we've had the intercom go at all hours for the various neighbours over the years.

It was more frequent when I was off on mat leave. I found out that to dial NDN you would dial 205 rather than 105 which you dial for us.

New NDN moved in around 2-3 months ago. Intercom went. I answered and it was a takeaway for next door. I explained it was not 105A and they would need to ring 105A themselves as I assume they would have a contact number. Or to try 205.

We've had quite a few occassions in the last 3/4 weeks of deliveries for NDN and the supplier calling us. I've knocked in the past and said "If you've ordered chinese, they're in the foywer waiting for you. And just so you're aware, you need to dial 205 for your intercom."

It continues. Infact, our intercom goes more for NDN than it does for us!

WWYD?

Put a note on the intercom?

cjt110 · 31/05/2018 10:23

Would you do that or have another polite word with the neighbour first?

If that Chinese was paid for on line or over the phone I would scoff it.....
Or leave a note on the intercom with instructions

Knittedfairies · 31/05/2018 10:25

Have a word with your neighbour, suggesting he/she puts a note on the intercom.

cjt110 · 31/05/2018 10:26

Its not an unreasonable thing to ask them to do is it?

Our intercom never goes for us... only our neighbours

Such a bad numbering scheme. If 105 gets divided it should become 105A and 105B otherwise this confusion is guaranteed to occur.

cjt110 · 31/05/2018 10:27

If that Chinese was paid for on line or over the phone I would scoff it..... It did cross my mind... but I couldn't have ascertained if it were paid for without alerting suspicions... Grin

busybarbara Yep. It was apparently going to be one huge apartment but was divided at time of building.

Shouldn't the neighbour be stressing their stuff is to go to 105A not 10 though? But then again, we all know delivery companies... perhaps it's not been read/ communicated?

Just Put a note on the intercom 🤷🏻‍♀️

DragonsAndCakes · 31/05/2018 10:38

Or disconnect the intercom unless you’re expecting someone? I know you shouldn’t have to, but if it works.

AllMYSmellySocks · 31/05/2018 10:39

Of course YANBU to ask the neighbour to make it clear what the correct intercom number is but you should also put a note on the intercom. If all of the above doesn't work and it's bothering you I guess just start being less helpful when the intercom goes off (just tell them they must have the wrong address). However I think it's more neighbourly to assume they're just forgetful.

DarlingNikita · 31/05/2018 10:52

I'd tell the neighbour you're putting a note on the intercom to make life easier for you all, as you get a lot of wrong deliveries etc.

Wellthisunexpected · 31/05/2018 10:57

I suspect that they do put their address o things but the delivery drivers don't read it, or there is no ability to add the A. We used to live at 427A, there was a 427 and a 427b we couldn't always put the A on our address as not all companies allowed you to manually input the address and it didn't always come up on the autocomplete address lists. A not on the intercom would be fine. TBH if there is't a 105A button, I can see why it would happen.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 31/05/2018 11:01

Can you turn it off? I would do that if you can and only have it on when you are likely to need it, for instance for a few hours in the morning in case the postman has a signed-for letter for you. When I last lived in a flat the intercom had a volume control dial on the side and if you turned it all the way down it turned off.

cjt110 · 31/05/2018 11:12

It's like a phone that we pick up in the house. I wonder if I can disconnect the cable? We have a concierge so if there's a parcel/signed for mail he can take it. We both work fulltime anyway so never in when the postman arrives

Mine was like a wall-mounted phone. Check the sides (and bottom if you can lift it up) and see if there is a volume control. I didn't even know that mine could be turned off until my cleaner did it accidentally by wiping downwards along the side.

cjt110 · 31/05/2018 11:24

Cheers Black

At least from the interruptions, I've learnt that Amazon deliver on a Sunday!

PattiStanger · 31/05/2018 11:24

Why wouldn't you just explain the situation to the NDN and ask them to tell people to ring 205?

Say nicely that you don't need your bell and it's disconnected so they won't get deliveries unless they make it fully clear to everyone they are 205

cjt110 · 31/05/2018 11:27

PattiStanger I have. It still happens.

A note on the intercom would seem like the best idea.

Alternatively, after making sure your neighbour is aware that people have to press 205 for them, start telling take away and delivery people that it's nothing to do with you. After not getting their deliveries several times I imagine they'll start making sure people know how to contact them.

Ollivander84 · 31/05/2018 11:30

Same here. Except people just press trade or any random number
I was not polite the night I got woken at 3.30am by OOH gp, 5.30am by ambulance and 6.15am by OOH again

ShotsFired · 31/05/2018 11:35

I live at Shots Road, and there is a Shots Avenue nearby.

I am in a little offshoot cul de sac type section of houses which has an official/LA-installed road sign saying "1-5 Shots Road". You have to walk right past it to get to our doors.

I still get people, deliveries, takeaways - all kinds - still knocking at my door. What's more, they always give me a slightly dirty look, as if it's MY fault they went to the wrong address!

cjt110 · 31/05/2018 11:36

Worst I had Ollivander Went like this:

Mid afternoon, weeks old DS sleeping.

Buzzer goes
Me: Hello?
Person: Let me in
Me; Erm, sorry I've no idea who you are
Person: Let me in, now!
Me: I'm not letting anyone in that I don't know
Person: (can hear door handle being yanked and banged) Fucking let me in now or I'll rag this door of the hinges.

I went round to next door just in case it was for the,. At the time two mid 20's girls were living there. Both no trouble and lovely neighbours. Another girl answered their door. I asked were they expecting a mid-aged sounding male? She replied yes - it's my Dad. I said in no uncertain terms that if he rang my buzzer again, shouting and being aggressive I would phone the police.

As I was going back inside he was walking along the hallway and I repeated the same to him.
