For the first time in 5 years. I have seen a dentist in that time but it's been so expensive it really put me off so I didn't go back for much treatment.

I've had an emergency filling recently that has either got infected or was infected when it was done and fuck me the taste is repulsive! The emergency dentist won't see me again as 'it's nothing to do with my work' over the phone.

I do feel bad about my teeth, and this does hurt.

So we're moving and the first thing I did was sign up for a dentist. I have booked an appointment and I know it will be bad at first but I will have fixed teeth at the end of it and that's worth the pain and fear of going to be dentist.

Do I need to tell my new dentist that I had chemotherapy last year? Also have had an abscess that hasn't been particularly painful for about a year now. As it was discovered after I'd started chemo and it was deemed safer to leave it, then I had to wait a while after I'd finished the treatment. Will they judge me?

Aibu to be shitting myself but also proud of myself that I have registered with a dentist?

On your first visit they will give you a form to fill in which will list medical conditions etc where you can give details of treatment. Yes tell them about the abscess. Its OK to be bricking it (I always am) but you are being brave to make appointment. It'll be fine. Honest its better to suffer the fear than it is to neglect your teeth. Treat yourself to something mice after. :)

Hi, I am very scared of the dentist and I didn't want to go either, one year later, I have had nine teeth worked on, including three root canal's, and I now speak fluent Greek ! My lovely dentist is Greek, so every time I would go back I would surprise herwith my new and improved Greek. We can all speak to each other only in Greek, and I didn't speak a word when I first started going.

Find out what your dentist likes or what you might have in common with your dentist, so you can chat about it. Or if you speak language is like I do, you can always learn one more, Ha ha ha. 😂 Find something that you like to do and do it after your appointments, or before your appointment. You can do it!

No they won't judge you, but you do need to make it clear that you had chemotherapy last year as well.

@Noqont ok thanks :) I did try and go during treatment but they really weren't happy to treat me and thank god they didn't as it's a massive infection risk. Neutropenic sepsis was not fun and that was a line infection I can't imagine it being caused by a tooth 🤢

If it makes you feel any better, until a couple of months ago the last time I went to the dentist I was pregnant with my daughter, who will be 8 this year. I needed a tooth out and I remember hoping I'd go into labour a bit early (I was 39 weeks in my defence!) to avoid it. I didn't get to avoid it.

Anyway I finally made myself go a couple of months ago it was fine - just needed a scale and polish and one teeny straightforward filling.

They won't judge you - for one thing you've got a way better excuse than me, and for another they're really used to dentist-refuseniks! If they were mean to every person who returned after being AWOL they wouldn't be doing their job properly.
