AIBU to want to go north?

I'm due to retire in a few years, and there's no way I can afford my present rent. Northern rents are much fairer, but where to go? I've hardly gone north of Watford in my life! Can you MNers recommend anywhere? Have any of you made a similar change of location?

If you like rain, come to Lancashire. We have at least 47 different types of drizzle. Apart from that, or maybe because of that, we have some lovely countryside, just a short trip from any of the major towns or cities. The main thing to consider, wherever you move, is how are you going to meet people? Most areas have a U3A group, check them out on line before you choose where to move. Doesn't matter where you move to, if you don't know anyone it can be lonely.

I chose Durham - well, it chose me because the rent is so affordable and because it's so beautiful and green. Of course the reason it's green is because of all the rain... Thank you to everyone who gave advice and good wishes, and to the one who accused me of driving prices up, go and boil your head.

I live in Newcastle and love it! I’m from Cumbria but moved over here in 2017 for uni and stayed ever since

Haven't been to Newcastle yet, but the Toon Tour is next on my list when there's a sunny day 🌞.

@Lincslady53 it's not a problem getting to know people here, everyone stops to chat.
