Hi all. On holiday at moment abroad. 2.5 DS woke up yesterday with around 20 spots on his face including 4 on/in ears and maybe 5/6 on arms and legs in total. Mild cough and runny nose. Initially thought mosquito bites as other kids covered but they look v different. Avoided public areas yesterday just in case thinking we’d know for sure today but only maybe one or two more spots. Older children were covered when they had it a few years ago. Quite happy in self. Doesn’t seem unwell. Chicken pox or not - what do you good folk reckon?

Could be. You need to get a doc to confirm it or not because if it is you need to isolate until the last spot is crusted. You may also need to use you your travel insurance because they may not let you fly.

Ask at reception for local doc visit - and until you have definitely ruled it out he needs to stay put. Hopefully it’s bites but if it is CP you need to know

Yes looks like chicken pox not all children and up pickled and it takes up to 7 days for all the spots to come out unfortunately the airline may refuse you to fly back.

Thanks both. We drove here so no probs re getting home. May be best to find a doctors. Feel faintly ridiculous given it’s my 4th child for not knowing!

Do any of the spots look blistery in the middle at all?

Don't feel daft, my youngest had chickenpox a few weeks ago and I couldn't decide if it was the pox or not at first. He only had a few spots for the first couple of days (and only a few more after that) whereas my eldest had been covered in hundreds of them within hours of spotting the first one. It's very easy to be unsure at first, of course if it is the pox, you'll know soon enough. DS never felt unwell either and wasn't hugely itchy (though I did give piriton to prevent it).

Thanks Roomba. No I don’t think they look blistery. My daughter had one huge blister initially ‘down below’ and then just that area had around a hundred within a few hours. The lack of blisters confusing me too! Maybe I’ll try and find a doctor. I think it’s cp but really don’t want to confine us all to isolation if not necessary!

Took almost a week for my lo to get all his spots. Then he was really quite poorly before that I thought we'd got off lightly!

Great! Just goes to show experience teaches us nothing as a parent! Grin

Could be hand foot and mouth as well.
