To be considering rescuing my neighbour's washing from the ground?

My last post was coincidentally about washing too - obviously I spend way too much time with laundry on the brain GrinBlush

It's a lovely warm day so I've got my bedding happily hanging out the back on our communal washing lines. My upstairs neighbour has decided to do the same and went out with his sheets about 2 hours after me, but it's quite windy and I saw him struggling to hang them (first time I've seen him at the line in the 3 months I've lived here - maybe his first time hanging washing out?)

Eventually he got them all secured and went back inside, but in the past half hour his sheet has fallen off completely and is lying in a heap on the grass. I know this is so ridiculous and I shouldn't waste energy thinking about it but I cannot stop thinking about that sheet! Ha! I've only met him a couple of times in the hallway and never exchanged more than a "hello" so I don't know if touching his laundry is crossing a boundary.

WWYD? Half of me wants to be neighbourly and pin it back up for him but the other half tells me to stay out of it. I did this for a previous neighbour once before and was promptly told to "never touch her washing again" so I'm hesitant. Would you appreciate a neighbour picking up your fallen laundry?

Smile A silly thread, but I appreciate any input!

Could you knock his door and tell him it's fallen down?

Sirzy · 29/05/2018 15:48

In a communal garden I would without doubt

Celebelly · 29/05/2018 15:48

If it was a sheet or something I'd be grateful. I'd feel a bit weird if it was my pants or something, but then if they came off the might be at risk of blowing away so rather someone else pick them up than my knickers cause an accident by blowing onto someone's windscreen or something!

@dementedpixie I know this is the most sensible solution but in all honesty he makes me nervous! My OH knocked on his door one evening not long ago to tell him he'd left a car window open and his only response was "And?" Hmm just trying to help...

Oh I wouldn't after that! Cheeky fecker. Hope a bird shits on it.

JohnnyKarate · 29/05/2018 15:54

You could go pick it's up and throw it over the line just so it's not getting dirty.

DartmoorDoughnut · 29/05/2018 15:55

Based on his response to the car window I would leave it on the ground

Notevilstepmother · 29/05/2018 15:56

How totally rude of your other neighbour.

I’d pick it up, and I’d thank someone who did that for me.

MrTrebus · 29/05/2018 15:59

I would if he was nice except he sounds like a twat so no don't do it.

Kidssendingmenuts · 29/05/2018 16:02

I'd do it. It's only a sheet after all it's not like your caressing his clean boxers or anything or sealing socks to make puppets. Do it! X

Kidssendingmenuts · 29/05/2018 16:03

Stealing socks!*

He went out and pinned it back up himself, but it has since flown off again! Grin I'm almost tempted to go and offer him some of the fabulous Lakeland pegs I bought on the back of the advice I got on my last thread, or even help him pin it up securely, but I don't want to seem patronising.
