Was out for drinks with DH whilst visiting BIL last month. I inadvertantly caught the attention of a drunk and aggressive young girl in the smoking area. I tried my best to get away but before i knew it i had been knocked out cold. She was gone by the time i came to, DH took me to A+E to get checked out but fortunately all seemed fine.

It was a traumatic experience. Ever since i have had massive anxiety about going out, and have avoided any social events since.

AIBU to feel like this? Have you ever been knocked out before?

At my wedding!
As i got into the car I banged my head quite hard, and you see me crumpling into the car. I was only out for a second. The photo they put in the announcements in local paper was syraight after with a wonky headdress and me looking slightly glazed.

Three times, all in childhood.

  • First time was my fifth birthday. I'd just got a new bike and my brother told me to ride it down the garden path. In December. I hit an ice patch and then a huge rock, went flying over the handlebars and hit my head. Next thing I knew my Mum was carrying me back to the house, somewhat hysterical. This was in the late 70s though so I wasn't taken to hospital.
  • Another time was when my Dad rolled our car when I was about 11. To be fair, I'm not sure if it was a deep faint through sheer terror. But was aware of car rolling and then woke up hanging upside down in the car. Was confused as I was looking down at my Dad and older brother but then realised they were both out of their seats, kneeling on the roof to get me.
  • Third time I was thrown from a horse. My mum, by now used to traumatic events involving her daughter, was sat in the parents' viewing area and didn't even notice until someone asked whose little girl was face down in the sand.

No lasting issues from any of the above (that I know of).

Sorry to hear about your experience OP. I'd echo other posters that, although understandably terrifying, this is an isolated, rare event and the chance of it happening again is miniscule.

Not been knocked out but similar unprovoked issue. Highly recommend victim support and also a practitioner in hypnosis/ trauma counselling - it's not as odd as it sounds, and can be about implanting a new neural pathway to give you confidence again. Hope that helps. I also practice EFT emotional freedom therapy, looks bonkers, really helps
