Ks1 sats 2019

Hi, does anyone know how you can find out the dates of the ks1 sats next year?

Wanting to book a holiday to go on Wednesday 22nd May (daughter will miss 3 days and yes I know I shouldn't be taking her out of school but we have special circumstances in our family and holidays are always authorised by the head so no fines are applicable to us) but she will be in year 2 and pretty sure that's when they do the sats? They break up on Friday 24th May.

Any ideas? Or ways I can find out? Obviously don't want her missing her sats x

My understanding is that schools can do them any time during May. There is no set date like KS2.

Unless there are plans to change this for next year.

OwlinaTree · 28/05/2018 17:37

I'd be surprised if they were waiting till the last 3 days of term to do them.

Sirzy · 28/05/2018 17:37

No set dates. I know our school where still doing them up the end of the half term

wonderstar1216 · 28/05/2018 17:45

Our school did then the last week of this half term

bitzy12 · 28/05/2018 18:12

Thank you, I'm not going to book just incase. Thanks, I don't think there's a way of me finding out so it's not worth it

There are no set dates, they can do them any time so the school would let have your child sit them before you go.

PurplePimple · 28/05/2018 18:31

You can book your holiday. There are no dates - your child can do the ks1 SATs papers on any day.

Somewhereovertherainbow13 · 28/05/2018 18:52

Any time in May. The school will most probably ask you not to go but if you said you were going regardless they would make arrangements around the holiday (your child may end up sitting them earlier but on their own)

Fruitcorner123 · 28/05/2018 18:55

Ours were the weeke before last. My DC missed two papers because of a sickness bug and he just caught up on them when he was better so your school would probably do that. If you have special circumstances the school are aware of I would just go and have a chat with them and explain the situation.

Mascarponeandwine · 28/05/2018 19:00

ours were two weeks before half term

AustrianSnow · 28/05/2018 19:07

Ours have done them over several weeks, including the last day of term. I don’t know what they’d do about children absent that day assuming they have to be sat in May.

TeaAndBisquits · 28/05/2018 19:14

Our school did them Monday/ Tuesday/ Wednesday/ Thursday last week, then broke up for half term on the Friday. I think it varies from school to school when they plan then, as long as it's in May.

honeyishrunkthekid · 28/05/2018 19:16

They are marked internally not externally like the KS2 so can be done any time during May.

Tbh I wouldn't even want my Year2 child sitting them and will be choosing to opt out if I could. Although I've heard it's easier just to let them sit it but write nothing.

They will be scrapped by 2020

Fruitcorner123 · 28/05/2018 19:23

Although I've heard it's easier just to let them sit it but write nothing

do you mean they go into school that day and sit the exam but you tell them to write nothing on the exam paper? won't that be confusing and upsetting for a 6/7 year old? Sorry if I have misunderstood.

I personally think if the rest of the school are doing it they might as well just do it. I wouldn't allow any extra revision or pressure to be put on them but the actual exams themselves are no big deal if you don't make them one. Most children just want to be the same as their peers at that age.

honeyishrunkthekid · 28/05/2018 19:32

Yes I mean, they can write their name and then go into another classroom like reception and play.

I wouldn't want my child to be tested on that age and would prefer to opt out if I could. But I'm told by teacher friends that the paper work is huge and it's easier to do it the way I suggested.

I don't believe in sitting exams that age. It's far too young. But that's my opinion. Happy to be disagreed with

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 28/05/2018 19:38

Given that in most schools the children don’t actually realise they are sitting a test, it’s going to be quite difficult for them to figure out what they’re supposed to be writing nothing on.

applesauce1 · 28/05/2018 19:44

I'm a year 2 teacher. We used the entire testing window of May to administer the tests in small groups. The tests finished the day before half term.
Every year, a few children are on holiday for part of the test. We make sure these children sit the tests at other times but it is a staffing nightmare (the tests should be administered by a teacher and need two people present to avoid maladministration) and would be impossible if all children were away during various times in May.
Having said that, I'd rather do away with testing 6 and 7 year olds altogether.
