.... to object to people pressure washing garden paving?

It just seems very noisy and goes on for hours. I have neighbours on either side who like to do this.

Is it a clean freak thing to do like bleaching door frames? I've heard it's not actually very good for the stones.

I just sweep the paved areas of the garden with an old-fashioned broom from time to time.

(Naturally I tolerate this in the way you have to tolerate neighbours' eccentricities. But this seems to be some new fashion. I can't remember it happening when I was younger.)

My OH would play with a power washer all day if we could afford one.

I wouldnt have a problem with it.

MumofBoysx2 · 28/05/2018 17:00

YABU. I always pressure wash our patio and pathways (they can get slippery and mildew otherwise). We only do it every few weeks so it isn't a big drama. We do wash the cars with it once a week but it's a quick job. Why is it a problem?

Racecardriver · 28/05/2018 17:01

If you have cheap slabs (E. G. The kind you get on new builds) you have to clean them with a pressure hose otherwise they look horrible.

MustBeThursday · 28/05/2018 17:01

We don't use one, but we're on a water meter.

JennieLee · 28/05/2018 17:01

I think the point about outside is that it is outside. There is moss. There is grass. Sometimes there is fallen blossom or there are leaves. That's part of the pleasure of it all.

I'm not even that keen on having an ultra-bleached, ultra-disinfected kitchen. So I draw the line at cleaning the garden - as opposed to bit of light weeding, hedge trimming, stopping the lawn from turning into jungle.

Anyone who wants a cup of tea on the slightly mossy patio/terrace - is more than welcome.

(Nobody so far has refused a drink on the grounds there are a few spots of moss. Nobody has fallen either.)

Love power washed patios - if you’ve got a very green garden with a bit of mossy patio that can look alright but if you’ve mostly got green slabs, it looks awful if not washed imo.

DameDoom · 28/05/2018 17:03

DH has the pressure washing gene and would be at it every other week if I didn't stop him. He has dislodged all our slabs with his high power blastage. Fuckin' Karcher

It’s nothing like a clean freak thing to do

ForalltheSaints · 28/05/2018 17:10

Perfectly reasonable thing to do, just perhaps consideration for neighbours as to when to do it. If you are at home during the week, do it then, for example.

Sparklingbrook · 28/05/2018 17:11

Of course nobody would refuse a drink because the patio was dirty. Confused

But the same as the house if I am spending time in the garden I want it to be tidy and clean. And also I can walk about out there in bare feet if it's been washed.

You would NOT use a pressure washer if you are a clean freak, you get soaked and filthy.

MoreCheerfulMonica · 28/05/2018 17:12

YAN(in my view)BU. Cleaning the patio with bio washing liquid and a brush removes all the algae without using a swimming pool's worth of water.

SimonBridges · 28/05/2018 17:13

I did my drive this morning to get all the weeds up.
It only takes an hour or so.

futuristic1 · 28/05/2018 17:15

Having a presure washer is like having a uniform.
It makes you feel like you're engaged in important work.

It's one for the Walter Mittys, theworlkd put to rights by the power of the water gun.

Like amateur dramatics and improvisational jazz, it's great fun for those doing it, less so for those listening.

You do tend to find that those who have pressure washers also have loose paving - but at least it's clean!

Boulshired · 28/05/2018 17:17

I like writing my name or drawing little patterns on the slabs, but I tend to only do it every few years.

Lallypopstick · 28/05/2018 17:18

The subreddit r/powerwashingporn is the best thing ever.

Seriously?

My patio isn't lose and it is clean Grin

LighthouseSouth · 28/05/2018 17:24

These noisy gadgets are a mare
No moss problems with the neighbours doing it by my parents

They are lovely neighbors but goodness, I live in a flat on a busy road and it's better here sometimes than at my folks with the neighbors cleaning or strimming blah blah.

JennieLee · 28/05/2018 17:28

My unwashed terrace/patio.....

You know id moss is such a problem maybe you've laid your patio in the wrong place. It might be a bit too shady for sitting out on.

The again, you lay paving, you sve on gradening.

You don't lay paving, you save on pressure washing.

First world problems.

I don't remember people slipping all over the place on moss and algae in the past. Perhaps they just paid more attention. Cheaper and saves water too.

FlyingElbows · 28/05/2018 17:30

If you use the patio cleaning attachment thing it doesn't spray all over the place.

SoyDora · 28/05/2018 17:32

You like it natural OP, that’s fine.
Other people like it pressure washed. Also fine.
Another ‘different people like different things’ shocker 🤷🏻‍♀️

Sparklingbrook · 28/05/2018 17:32

That would come up lovely with a quick jetwash OP.

LighthouseSouth · 28/05/2018 17:32

What did the moss sufferers do before jet washers?
Also why do new build drives look bad without a wash?

futuristic1 · 28/05/2018 17:33

@JenniLee - nice - gives it character, no need for washing. And who hasn't got better things to do with their lives. After all we don't live forever. And every hour spent pressure washing is one neither St Peter not the divil himself will want to hear about.
