To think a number of the instamums are still at it

By not disclosing ads? Number of them are away this half term. Some have been very transparent and acknowledged that some part of their holiday is paid for. Others have been away for almost a week and yet suddenly there is a tiny ‘ad’ in the corner.

Why won’t they just be transparent? What is do wrong with that?

Why do you care? Stop watching en masse and they wont have a career

checkedcloth · 28/05/2018 15:24

Why do I care?

Well instragam is a popular platform which I enjoy. Don’t think it’s unreasonable for theses so called ‘relatable’ woman to acknowledge that they have been paid to say something or have been given a substantial gift such as a holiday

I love Instagram I get loads of dog stuff offered to me on it! It's not hard to say it's a freebie and where you got it from (that's the point of it... to boost their marketing and sales!) It's a shame not everyone is upfront about it

BlueSapp · 28/05/2018 15:35

I just block them all, they don't come up on my feed or in search so I'm never one of their stats. They would soon stop if everybody who didn't want to see them blocked them completely and not just unfollowing them, there would be very little engagement.

checkedcloth · 28/05/2018 15:36

That’s the thing - I don’t blame them for ‘taking the freebie’ I would too! It’s just the pretence of being relatable that winds me up.

And when they just say ‘ad’ what does that mean? Would that mean the whole trip was paid for? If they are only declaring an ad half way through does that mean the trip is half paid for?

So odd

I really don’t understand why people get so worked up about this, who cares? Confused

checkedcloth · 28/05/2018 15:47

I do!

Sparklesanddiamomdsforever · 28/05/2018 15:54

Why though? How does it impact upon your life?

Ninchninch · 28/05/2018 15:56

What is an instamum and why are they suddenly getting stuff for free . Where's my free holiday?!

BumpowderSneezeonAndSnot · 28/05/2018 16:00

If it's anything like the stuff I get offered it's companies approaching posters whose content they like, who post frequently and meets their branding requirements. So for me I post far too many posts about my dog so get dm'd by dog toy and accessory companies offering me freebies and money in turn for a few posts at chosen times of my dog enjoying or using their product. The more you do the more you get offered in some fields.

BlueSapp · 28/05/2018 16:01

I suppose it annoys people because they feel foolish for engaging with them thinking its genuine to only find out after that its not, if you think of a real life example say if you go into a shop and you speak to someone else whose shopping about a top your looking at and they have it too and encourage you to buy it and you go up to the till and your getting your money out and they then get the top for free because they got you to buy it, (sorry for a watery analogy but i think know what I mean).

Sparklesanddiamomdsforever · 28/05/2018 16:03

@bluesapp, I get the anology, but even so why would this bother you?! If you like it you buy it, it’s as simple as that.

checkedcloth · 28/05/2018 16:03

It doesn’t really sparkles. I didn’t ask whether I was unreasonable to care though did I?

Sparkles - it's simply about ethical behaviour.

It's not complicated why it bothers people.

You might be the sharpest knife in the drawer but lots of people won't be as bright and 'sparly' as you.

Some other people care that those less bright people can be more easily exploited and might be ripped off by those 'instamums'.

Think of all the advertising scams that are always appearing on TV where the old and vulnerable are ripped off.

Maybe that's why people care - do you think?

Sparklesanddiamomdsforever · 28/05/2018 16:21

@futuristic1 I think you are looking too deeply into it, it’s just people posting pictures. No one knows the backgrounds of these people, and whether they are rich, poor, getting freebies etc. You choose who you follow, and scroll past. Do you really think people give it that much thought? And even if someone is given something free, how is that exploiting the “less bright”?

futuristic1 · 28/05/2018 16:37

@Sparkles - you can either choose to engage with the subject and find out how instagram/social media really works or live with it in a haze of wilful ignorance.

If it's all so meaningless why do they do it? Why not find out?

In the end, you either care or you don't.

Dappledskies · 28/05/2018 18:18

I can't say I've noticed the lack of #ad recently - just less of them and definitely less holidays (so far) this half term. Maybe the advertisers are wising up.
