Can I have a hand hold? Emergency surgery tomorrow

WorryingWombat · 27/05/2018 23:36

Evening all

I have been stuck in Hospital for days I have Ideopathic intercranial hypertension (IIH) A condition which mimics a bran tumour.

I have had this for years suffering with headaches dizzyness and needing regular lumber punctures to relieve the CFS pressure

But now it has affected my vision the build up of CFS is now affecting my optic nerve so the risk is losing my sight

I was admitted on thus and have had many tests many scans to find I have reached the end and they have to operate and place a VP shunt

I knew this was coming and I thought they would book the surgery for a few weeks but no the Neuro surgeon has just come now and I have signed a consent for emergency surgery tomorrow!!!!!!!!!

I am so scared and know I won't sleep now

It's to late to ring family so I wondered if anyone was awake for a hand hold??

halfwitpicker · 28/05/2018 20:13

Yay! Glad it went well xx

IggyAce · 28/05/2018 20:16

Glad you're back. Oh the bald patch, my mum had short hair so was impossible to cover, luckily like me her hair grows fast so looked OK after 3-4 weeks.

AdaColeman · 28/05/2018 20:17

Glad to hear that you are back on the ward Wombat, everything crossed for a speedy recovery!

WorryingWombat · 28/05/2018 20:23

Nice buzz cut 😂😂

Working out how best to cover also my hair is so messy and matted and I have been told no washing for 5 days and even then just with water no shampoo for 10 day 😭

Scarves and hats. Go mad on scarves and hats!

Downeyhouse · 28/05/2018 20:37

Glad it is over :)

If you really want to cover it I think a fine array of hats could be your best friend for the next 10 days. Or you could adopt a youthful look - and wear a hoody with the hood up.

Rachie1986 · 28/05/2018 20:43

Glad all went well OP, hope you feel much better soon x

Mummylin · 28/05/2018 20:53

Glad to see your update. Hope you have a settled night.

mamamagellanic · 28/05/2018 20:54

Ooh ouch! DD's surgical fellow managed to keep her hair! They painstakingly combed it away with gel. Her hair is very long, they said it'd be cruel to shave. At least it's summer! You can wear hats? Eyes are more important than hair!

So glad all is ok. Hope your pain isn't too bad and your night is calm.

You made it!

AdaColeman · 28/05/2018 20:55

Scarves knotted up into glam turbans for a couple of weeks would be fine, or a soft straw or soft fabric hat might work, you don't want anything that will scratch or dig in.
If you've got a fringe hairstyle, dry shampoo might do the trick on that.

For now, concentrate on resting and getting well. Thanks Thanks

Lilacwine1 · 28/05/2018 21:07

I have been told these are soft and easy to wear.

I have a bamboo cotton t-shirt which is really comfortable in hot weather.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Do you have a trusted hairdresser? It would be good if you could go and have some kind of pixie cut which would allow your hair to grow out.
Meanwhile, go with the suggestions upthread if you want to cover it up - although I'm wondering if a ponytail would disguise it.
Whichever way, I really hope you are starting to feel better and that you recover your sight soon.

WorryingWombat · 29/05/2018 06:38

Good morning everyone! Another rough night as I have been on half hourly ops

But I am feeling very well just sore

Hurts my abdo wound when I bend kind of reminds me of my cesection that initial Shap pain when you move but then your ok

My head is sore but not to bad

My worse pain in the bruising that's coming out over my neck and chest area where the draining wire was passed

Other than a few aches I am OK😁

Thank you all. So much for the hand hold I think I was in shock!!

I have spent over an hour this. Morning brushing out all the blood and gunk from my hair so it is slightly more manageable!
Looks like a ponytail will cover the wound and sticky bandage completely I will just have a slightly odd looking buzz cut section on the bottom right of the pony tail

I will be able to. Wash. It properly in about 10 day so will look in to visit the hair dresser to make it a bit more manageable as the buzz cut section grows out!

Mrsjones- yes the kids are coming on today and I cannot wait

The nurses have said i am doing so well (walking and moving) that the dr's might let me home today

I have to have another CT scan to check. Position of the shunt today so. Fingers crossed that is good and I might be home later or at least tomorrow!!
