To consider this an eyesore

House behind mine, not directly behind- behind and to the left are building a summer house, however the structure is up and it’s huge! More of a full blown house. I’ve tried googling and annoyingly I’m not sure they would have needed planning permission. Would you hate this although not directly behind my house? ...I’m also dreading how much “hosting” they will do in it.

My next doors have been building a wooden gazebo next to my fence for a year... we have christened it Giza as it's pyramid shaped at the top. They finally finished it a week ago and have installed a spa there.

The gazebo itself is a nice enough one but being so close to the fence it feels intrusive

RebelRogue · 27/05/2018 22:21

Your fence is more of an eyesore.

Teggun · 27/05/2018 22:21

if it's more than 2.5m tall or if it appears to have water or electricity supply as those require building regs approval

You are correct about the height - over 2.5m needs planning consent. But not the electricity / water bit. It is more important what the building will be used for and how often. Occasion sleepovers might be fine but not if its used as a permanent bedroom etc. Running a business from it would require planning consent but not using it as a summer house etc.

Discussionoftheday1 · 27/05/2018 22:22

I'd ask them to grow some of that fast growing clematis across the back of it, then you'd have a wall of flowers to look at..

Duck90 · 27/05/2018 22:23

It is quite large, but it’s not going to impact light in your garden or your neighbours garden. Both gardens in the picture look really empty. Obviously you choice, I’d love to go in and plant some flowers 🌷 😀

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 27/05/2018 22:23

As per my post it’s not directly behind my house it’s to the left of mine but close proximity

oldraver maybe your neighbours think the trampoline is intrusive?

MaireadMacSweeney · 27/05/2018 22:25

My neighbours built one that size. They use it as a gym, complete with pounding 'music.'

Sorry OP.

Teggun · 27/05/2018 22:26

How much time do you spend upstairs looking out of the window at the garden behind your next door neighbours ...? Confused

ILoveMyDressingGown · 27/05/2018 22:27

It's difficult to tell from that image but it looks no bigger than ours (and we've only recently had ours built and it's blue...) and we only use ours for enjoying the outdoors without actually being outside during the day and the early evening. We don't entertain others in it as we have no friends and the music we play in it on the Bluetooth speaker can't be heard from other gardens (I know because I've tested it).

I don't think it's an eyesore and after a while it'll just become part of the landscape.

Btw I wouldn't have known you're in a terrace - ours is a semi but all out gardens join up too.

Faez · 27/05/2018 22:29

looks like they have more privacy in their garden now

Etymology23 · 27/05/2018 22:32

It really just looks like a medium sized shed to me. But maybe my standards are skewed by the countryside where having as much outbuilding as house isn’t unusual!

lolarosey · 27/05/2018 22:34

Jesus Christ ! I thought that was my garden then 🙈. Not the summer house one but the one next door ! Only realised it wasn't because our fence is newer 😂. I have been telling my OH out garden needs sorting for ages. We have just got new neighbours too so I nearly screamed when I saw the photo 😱

ILoveMyDressingGown · 27/05/2018 22:35

On 2nd thoughts it's about double the length as ours so ignore my post above. Those in the garden up and round the corner from me have one of a similar size to this and it has what looks like an exhaust on it. I'm assuming that's for a log burner thing. They have parties etc in there but are almost always quiet by about this time.

Someone over the back of us built some sort of workshop thing out of breeze blocks. They must have flouted regulations though because less than a year later they took it down.

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 27/05/2018 22:35

Not as much an eyesore as that fence...

SimonBridges · 27/05/2018 22:37

Meh.
It seems like a perfectly nice building. I really couldn’t get worked up about that. The fence is for more of a state.

siwel123 · 27/05/2018 22:43

I see no problem tbh.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 27/05/2018 22:45

Yes I was a bit Hmm at you live in terraced housing comment! Know your place OP you can only grumble if you live in a house deemed worthy enough! If you live in terraced housing these things do affect you more, as you are living in such close proximity to other people, so if it’s a workshop fr example it could be very noisy, if you lived in a detached house in its own plot it would not have so much affect, so I can understand why you are concerned.

ghostyslovesheets · 27/05/2018 22:48

it's not that big - just shed height - you've had to take a picture from upstairs to see it so not that imposing - sorry but I think YABU

vodkaredbullgirl · 27/05/2018 22:50

its not directly in you view, so why complain

Wondermoomin · 27/05/2018 22:56

YABU. It seems you're annoyed that you no longer have a view of their garden. They're probably quite pleased about that. 😂

TheEmmaDilemma · 27/05/2018 23:35

YABU. It's not causing you an issue? It looks nice. Pimp up your fences and gardens!

firehousedog · 27/05/2018 23:38

Cover it up with climbing plants.

firehousedog · 27/05/2018 23:39

Oh its presumably backing onto your neighbours.

firehousedog · 27/05/2018 23:39

I think excavated foundations are key to planning permission criteria.
