To treat myself to a boob job

user1490465531 · 27/05/2018 10:35

Basically I could only afford it by taking out a loan or putting it on my credit card.
I could afford the repayments but money would be tight.
However without going into detail my right breast is slightly deformed and I'm very small chested so have zero confidence in that area.
I know it's not the be all of life but I feel that as I'm approaching 40 it's kind of now or never.
I have tried to save but something always pops up that I have to pay for.
I know it's a lot of money so is it selfish of me to consider it as I'm not rich by any means.

Your money, your body. If you think it will make you happy, go for it.

laptopdisaster · 27/05/2018 10:38

that would be mad. see your GP for counselling about your confidence.

What will you do if there are complications and you need further surgery, which the NHS won't cover?

CocoAndTheChocolates · 27/05/2018 10:49

If slightly deformed could you get this on NHS? I'm clueless about this btw but have you explored that

user1490465531 · 27/05/2018 10:58

I don't want to bother the NHS as I know they are over stretched and this wouldn't be classed as life saving treatment.

Coco have you read the papers lately?!

Oysterbabe · 27/05/2018 19:53

It would be madness, you can't afford it.

Aprilmightbemynewname · 27/05/2018 19:56

My friend got hers on finance through the clinic . £300 a month for 3 years!

Lifeisabeach09 · 27/05/2018 19:56

Depends on the costs involved. How much is it?
If you truly feel it will benefit you and are aware of the risks involved, go for it.

VogueVVague · 27/05/2018 19:57

If "slightly deformed" means "not symmetrical with the other one" yabu. Everyone has one breast slightly different to the other. And theres nothing wrong with a small cup size.

DontGoIntoTheLongGrass · 27/05/2018 20:01

Some places do finance. I've looked into it also. You could try go through NHS but be prepared to be sent to therapy first to decide whether it's affecting you mentally and worth NHS. I say this from experience BTW. It looks years after my doctor told me i was deformed and I finally gave up and paid for it myself. That was 10 years ago and I'd love them redoing as they are so tiny. I think im a 34AA at the moment. Even having a baby didn't make them bigger or gaining 2 stone!

Your money, your body

This^^.

tillytoodles1 · 27/05/2018 21:13

My daughter had a breast enlargement as her 18th birthday present, but we paid for it as a gift with no loans involved.

Pigwitch · 27/05/2018 21:17

Go for it if will make you happy and improve your quality of life. Maybe think about a second job or cutting back on everyday expenses to make it more affordable?

KarmaStar · 27/05/2018 21:22

What was the point of your comment Tillytoodles1?

Vicky1990 · 27/05/2018 21:23

Will you have enough money to have the implants removed if they start leaking.

Turnocks34 · 27/05/2018 21:26

I am having a boob job. I have literally no breast tissue. My boobs started growing when I was 11, and stopped when I was 12. I hate them with a passion.

I’m taking the finance option too. Going to pay them off over a year.

Your body..your choice

Bestie245 · 27/05/2018 22:06

I had a nose job last year after hating how crooked it was all my teenage and adult life, if you can afford it and you think it'll make you happier do it. But...

I've heard in the past if you have silicone implants it stops you from feeling any possible lumps etc, so could be a risk re breast cancer. HOWEVER I am not a medical professional and this is only something I've heard, though it seems to make sense it could be inaccurate. Just make sure you check first xx

mummyyessy · 27/05/2018 22:28

Op, this isn't related to the money question - although I would never take out a loan for this.

But I have quite a significantly deformed body part(!!) and have finally reached a point where I don't care anymore. It's me. I'm me. It doesn't matter what others think, they don't live my life. As long as I'm happy, that is all that matters.

I mean this in the best possible way, but try to live you - with all your odd bits & boobs. 🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸

RavenLG · 27/05/2018 22:35

I think getting into debt over it is crazy. Circumstances change and what happens if say you lose your jobs surgery and can't afford the repayments?

Saving up and getting it in a few years seems a much more sensible option as you're not putting yourself in a financially risky position.

lhastingsmua · 27/05/2018 22:38

I’m not against cosmetic surgery but I wouldn’t get into debt for itSad what about a year of saving up? But solidly stick to it this time

Also as you say that money is an issue - please research your future surgeon in depth, a lot of places advertise cheap boob jobs but you might end up with a botched job. Don’t go overseas to save money either. Really find the right clinic, do your research on them and let the price of it be a less significant factor, even if it means waiting longer to save and get it done

laptopdisaster · 28/05/2018 12:27

You won't get it on the NHS, things have changed since you could claim mental distress. Please don't waste a GP appt on this.

Confusedbeetle · 28/05/2018 12:30

It is very sad that you want to surgically put alien things in your body because you have body image problems

ThePants999 · 28/05/2018 12:37

I have tried to save but something always pops up that I have to pay for.

Then you cannot afford it. I'll say that again. You cannot afford it.

If you can't save, then you can't pay off debt. Finance is not there to get you things you can't afford, it's to let you have things now and pay later, instead of saving first and buying things later. Paying off a debt is just like saving, except you MUST do it, and you end up paying more. So if you cannot save, you must not get into debt.

SendintheArdwolves · 28/05/2018 12:38

Your body, your call, but I'm concerned that you say you've tried saving "but something always comes up". If you don't have the money to save, what will you do when the repayment is due every month and "something comes up"? I know it can be easy to tell yourself "well, if I had to make the payment then I just would somehow" but that's how people end up in real financial trouble - usually they take out more debt to cover repayments and it just spirals.
