To ask about leggings for DD?

DD wears black leggings almost every day, she is 8 and for the past 3 or so years we have bought them in NEXT. The last couple of pairs though haven't been anywhere near as good quality as usual. Thinner, slightly see through, not so well fitting and wearing much quicker then previous pairs.

Does anyone know where I can get decent leggings?

I will update once we have tried them all out. All the river island ones looked great but none of them plain black and she is wearing them in school.

I'm another who swears by Sainsbury's leggings. I have 4 years between daughters and have been able to hand them down for years now. Dd2 especially lives in leggings. They have a good fit and stretch - she sometimes wears them at gymnastics too. They feel nice, wash well and last until she has outgrown them.

Jammiebammie · 30/05/2018 08:40

Dd wears the fold over ones to school, we just don’t fold over the top (to hide builders bum really Grin) then They’re plain black👍🏽

I have tried our Sainsbury's but it's a small store and they have hardly any clothes.

I'd second Boden. They are really good quality and last forever. Just passed some on to a friend which were well worn by both DD1 and DD2.

polsha · 30/05/2018 10:03

I'm saving boden as a last resort as £18 is a bit steep for a pair of leggings

A quick update so far:

ZARA - for the child on the lean side so far too tight, didn't rate them in the hold up and stretch test either, quite see through so unless they were on a beanpole thin child and hanging they would be see through.

Peacocks - awful shaped thin looking things.

M&S - really disappointed in these. At first glance they looked fab, decent material, label tucked in to the waistband which is a massive bonus for DD, but, they have an odd seam stiching on the inside leg, which after one wear has rubbed and gone bobbled - pics attached of these!

I really rate Matalan's own brand sportswear leggings (Souluxe?)) for my DD's.

They're thick enough that they can be worn as trousers with a t-shirt.

polsha · 06/06/2018 08:45

Are they gym wear? I'm looking for regular leggings for school :/

Sorry ignore that stupidity, I meant are they obviously gym wear - like the sheen type?

Another vote for H&M, the only ones I've found that don't go baggy.

ThasARummun · 06/06/2018 08:55

Watching with interest. I'm going to go and try H&M after all these recommendations. OP, Biden leggings are very good and thick but yes agree expensive. Tip, no need to buy anything full price on Boden site. Sign up for their emails and they will bombard you with offers. I regularly get a £10 voucher to spend and I have never paid p&p as I just wait for a promo. There are a lot.

ThasARummun · 06/06/2018 08:55

Or Boden. Maybe Biden have good leggings too, who knows?

polsha · 06/06/2018 09:08

Thanks I will get onto Boden's email list right now Grin

Are your girls all wearing leggings for school in place of trousers?

polsha · 06/06/2018 09:15

Mine does yes.

I wouldn't say they were shiny, no.

As I'm very bored, I've taken a picture of them in sunlight next to a pair of standard cotton Peacocks leggings. Matalan on the right. Peacocks on the left.

We have h and m or Boden. Both good but I'd say Boden are better (althought more expensive). Thicker and harder wearing.

DinoSn0re · 06/06/2018 14:54

For the past few years Tesco’s F&F have had some thicker black leggings in their range which just don’t wear, they’re brilliant! Though not suitable for when it’s very warm. I’ve still got pairs that I bought 4 years ago!

Cath2907 · 06/06/2018 14:58

I have a skinny minny. H&M ones seem to fit her best or (oddly enough) Lidl ones. I find most others just fall off her.

RhiWrites · 06/06/2018 15:01

It’s great that leggings are becoming so universal. They’re much more comfortable than trousers, especially for an active child (or adult).

polsha · 06/06/2018 16:28

I have never seen these, only the standard girls leggings which are not great. Maybe it's just in bigger stores?
