To book us all into a travel lodge for a couple of days?

We’re currently in the middle of having a loft conversion and have no roof, because of where the stairs are being put we already had to move people around so we were all squeezed into 2 rooms (6 of us including a 4 month old and a 2 year old who isn’t a fan of the sleep) not ideal but not unbearable, now due to a leak we’ve had to move us all into one bedroom - plus furniture
Also because we have no roof we have a big old tent over that is so fucking loud in the wind I want to tear my ears off - I honestly can get across how loud it is, all.night.long
None of us have slept properly in days
I am crabby with a capital C

The builders have promised and double promised that the roof will be back on and watertight by Tuesday when the staircase then goes in
I’ve put to DP tonight that we all go to the travel lodge 10 minutes away until Wednesday now that we know it’ll definitely be done for then
He thinks it’s only a couple more nights so it’s a waste of money (he has volunteered to sleep on the couch, so of course he’d say this because you can’t hear the flappy tent from down here!)
I think if we all don’t get a decent sleep I’ll have killed them all by then

Who is BU?

Don't leave your kids :(

Take them to the travelodge, though, preferably booked with his bank card.

caoraich · 26/05/2018 23:36

Do it!
But first, check your postcode for airbnb.
Similar happened to us - huge leak, many builders, no sleep.
We checked airbnb and discovered our neighbours two doors down were renting out their granny flat. It was half the cost of the nearest hotel and we didn't even have to move the car!

Will it be ok from a safety point of view if you left the house vacant all night with no roof? I’d be worried someone could climb in. If not then I’d be off to the Travelodge!

DustandRubble · 26/05/2018 23:42

Are your kids in school? Worth checking if any families you know are going away for half term (assuming it is half term where you are) and would let you all house sit for a few nights.

PinkHeart5914 · 26/05/2018 23:51

As long as you can afford it bloody well do it! Will be the best money you’ve spent in a while.

If I didn’t have decent sleep I think I’d end up killing someone

condepetie · 27/05/2018 00:28

Premier Inn if you can! Better telly, better beds, better about providing beds for multiple kids. And more tea and coffee facilities. Grin

SeriousSass · 27/05/2018 00:49

Might not be applicable but..

CHeck you house insurance.... Have you updated it for building work and are there any special requirements if the house is vacant /not secured. If it's a problem then leave your husband in the house

No probs! DH wants to stay Grin

BlueTrousers · 27/05/2018 07:33

I’ve booked it Grin
No room tonight but I’ve booked it from tomorrow for two nights - it’s only costing £118 with breakfast! Why didn’t I do this days ago!?!

No thieves could get in, they haven’t actually Broke through the ceiling yet (well not on purpose anyway, we have had a couple of dangling legs 🙄) I didn’t think about the insurance though, DP will definitely have to stay behind then Grin

I’m amazed you even have to ask but fantastic that you’ve booked it

JennyOnAPlate · 27/05/2018 07:47

I think you should have booked two rooms! One for you and one for dh and the kids. That'd learn him and his fuckwittery.

EssentialHummus · 27/05/2018 07:50

What they ^ all said! We spent two nights in a Premier Inn when I was 8 months pregnant, having previously lived in one room of our building site, and slept on a Matthew. The Premier Inn in Lewisham is still my happy place!

EssentialHummus · 27/05/2018 07:51

On a mattress, that should have read. No idea who Matthew is, but I didn’t sleep on him.

TryingToForgeAnewLife · 27/05/2018 07:52

Why don't you sleep down stairs if its quieter?

scrappydappydoo · 27/05/2018 07:56

If DH is downstairs on the sofa and can't hear the tent - could you all sleep downstairs tonight - if you have to be in one room anyway.... Or you sleep downstairs with baby and toddler then everyone else can pile into the one bedroom with DH.

LeonoraFlorence · 27/05/2018 07:58

I’d do it, OP. Lack of sleep makes everyone miserable. Go and try to relax.

PlumsGalore · 27/05/2018 08:08

Bit late to the thread here, but to be honest I would have stuck it outi. Six people in 1 or 2 travel lodge rooms wouldn't be that comfortable anyway, probably noisy with other guests, strange beds. I doubt you will sleep much better, but I genuinely hope you do.
