To think that this shouldn't be labelled as containing dairy?

Just had lunch at a local cafe - I was really hankering for a sandwich but I wanted one without butter as I trying to be dairy free temporarily for a health issue.

Found a chicken and mayo one - I couldn't see any butter through the packaging and when I bought it and opened it up it did indeed have no butter. So I ate it and it was very nice

I did notice thought that the allergens label stated it did have dairy but mayo is made with eggs, not milk so isn't this a mis-labelling? It couldn't have been in the bread as there was a vegan salad sandwich on the same bread that was labelled as without dairy. It could only have been referring to the mayo.

Wibu to tell them this was wrong, for future reference? Or will I come across as a prize twat?

Alot of the low fat mayo has dairy in it - Hellmans Light Mayo does

I have a child with a Milk allergy, we have found milk to be in most breads of pre packed sandwiches.

Lots of mayo brands contain dairy. Hellmann's light mayo for example contains cream powder.

IMO food manufacturers are becoming like clothing manufacturers, they’re over labelling to reduce liability in the event of something going wrong.

Examples -
plain 100% cotton shirt, wash at 30 degrees. Why?

It’s always wise to be cautious, and labels do help, but some seem completely bonkers.

e1y1 even better are the labels for peanut butter ‘may contain nuts’. Yes it’s there!

Like the infamous warning on curling irons (and I’m still not sure if true or not) ‘for external use only’. Makes you think......

Agree that it could be the bread or how the chicken has been cooked. DC3 can’t have most animal milks (mines fine 😉) or soya. Bread is a bloody nightmare as a result. Also most preprepared stuff has either some milk based product or soya derivative in them. I can’t wait to have cheese again.

Full fat mayo doesn't (didnt0 contain dairy. Lower fat versions had cream/milk powder in them. Or was the case a few years ago with Hellmans, when DS was dairy free

I would sssume the chicken was cooked with butter as it found can be. Salad cream usually has dairy in it.

Dd is intolerant to milk. I spend my time looking at wrappers.

Cheap Mayo, as used in cheap or mass produced sandwiches, often contains morenskimmed milk powder than egg.
