The neighbour’s bloody dog

Merryoldgoat · 26/05/2018 00:25

Next door’s dog has escaped into the garden and has been barking loudly for the last 2 hours with no let up - he obviously can’t get back in. I’m assuming they’re out for the evening or they’d put him back in.

Is a Jack Russell and I want to throw something at it. Is there anything I can do to shut it up? I have a baby and really need all the sleep I can get Sad

Unfortunately it’s not the poor dogs fault. He didn’t ask to be abandoned outside.
Please save the bucket of water for when the owners return and throw it liberally over them selfish twats

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 26/05/2018 00:33

Poor dog.

Merryoldgoat · 26/05/2018 00:34

I wouldn’t really throw anything at him - just wondered if there was ANYTHING I can do. He sounds very distressed.

I’m a bloody bridesmaid tomorrow and have an early start and long drive.

Fucking typical.

What if I lifted the fence panel and had a look to see if I could help him get back in? He seems to have come out of the cat flap.

Oh no! Can you rescue him and stick a note through the door saying please collect a 7am or I’ll knock you up? Or grab him and call NDNs if their number is on his collar.

Poor bugger. Poor you!!

Carolynnnna · 26/05/2018 00:38

Let him into your house and give him a sausage. He will be quiet.

Ruffian · 26/05/2018 00:38

If you can sneak over probably worth a try - he might try to bite you though, my JR would if you came on his territory!

ScreamingValenta · 26/05/2018 00:42

Probably not. If you happen to have a dog-chew in your house, you could throw it into the garden - he might settle down to chew it - but if you don't have your own dog, you probably won't have one.

How did he get out? Are you on such terms with your neighbours that you could go into their garden and try to put him back in?

Merryoldgoat · 26/05/2018 00:42

I can’t let him in here - I have the most nervous cat in existence - she currently shaking next to me at the barking with a bottle brush tail.

Hmmmm. Really don’t fancy being bitten!! Bride would never forgive me if I had to go to A&E...

Might be worth chapping the door to see if they are in.

Merryoldgoat · 26/05/2018 00:44

I’ve text the neighbour. We’re on very good terms - they will be utterly horrified it’s happened.

I’m going to go and see if I can see over the fence a way to get him back in.

OP posts:
Merryoldgoat · 26/05/2018 00:46

Ok, he gave me a very nasty growl. I’m not going over there Confused

I really hope they respond to your text, I’d probably call, tbh. A text is ignorable in the way a ringing phone is not.

ScreamingValenta · 26/05/2018 00:51

Dogs go mad for cat treats and cat food in general (I have a dog and two cats) - you could try placating him by offering him something and see if that stops him growling.

NoSquirrels · 26/05/2018 00:55

Ooh yes - good idea Valenta

OP if you can chuck a handful of cat biscuits into their lawn it might shut him up whilst he sniffs them out. Would work for my Lab - for 10 mi utes, but she is an efficient hoover! Their JRT might be kept busy longer!

Merryoldgoat · 26/05/2018 01:02

Nope. He just barked more.

Sad

Not heard from neighbour?

Shinesweetfreedom · 26/05/2018 01:12

Id text again and then ring if no reply

ScreamingValenta · 26/05/2018 01:15

Any other neighbours who might be being kept awake who have dogs of their own and therefore access to dog-chews and the potential to take him in if their own dog is the friendly type?

Merryoldgoat · 26/05/2018 07:16

I text again at 1.08 and dog stopped quite soon after so I assume they either got back then or woke up and let him in.

This has happened twice before (so 3 times in 3 years which isn’t bad) but it always seems to happen on a night I really need sleep.

Got to head off soon and I’m exhausted. Thank god baby slept through.

I think you need to have a chat with your neighbours about sorting out the gaps in the fence where he can get through.

It's not on, especially if he's growly.

Kidssendingmenuts · 26/05/2018 07:34

This happened near us a few years back, they'd buggered off all night and it escaped out of the cat flap and was barking all night and set mine off! By 2am I'd had enough and went over but everytime I went near it went back inside, then as soon as back inside out it popped again the little happy shit! When I went back out for the final time it flew back in the cat flap again and I had the genius idea of putting the wheelie bin in front of the cat flap so it couldn't get back out again!
Let's say there were some pissed off neighbours when they finally came back at 11am!! X

NoSquirrels · 26/05/2018 11:54

I actually think 3 times in 3 years is a lot! If it happened just once, adn they were "mortified" then they should have made sure it could never happen again.
