AIBU to think that to be an "animal lover" you must be vegan? How can you say you love animals and then condone the slaughter and abuse of animals?

You could be vegan and hate animals.

ShatnersBassoon · 25/05/2018 16:50

That's an interesting and original way to think. I'm sure it will start a lively debate, the likes of which having never been heard before.

There was a thread almost exactly like this recently. Many people said they loved their own animals but also loved eating animals and left it at that, as though there were no contradiction. I basically agree with you, although you have to just factor in human weakness. I think I would call myself an animal lover and have always been vegetarian but have not yet managed to be 100% vegan. I acknowledge this as a contradiction and a flaw.

I love some animals, find some disgusting, some scary and am indifferent to others. The animal I love most is a very enthusiastic carnivore. Nature, innit. Hth.

Well I love humans but I’m sure my lifestyle still causes pain due to global inequality, cheap clothes and food etc.
I don’t think it’s possible to live a fully non-hyprocritical life. I don’t eat animals, I do use their products ie dairy and eggs, I know this is not “good” but it’s as far as I can go.

My husband and I are both vegans for ethical reasons but he's not really an animal lover. Can take or leave em.

Are you a vegan ksa?
And if so, for how long?
I ask, as I held similar views to you (which I kept to myself incidentally as I accept we all hold different views) then nearly died from pneumonia. When I was treated, I was found to be deficient in practically everything, which almost certainly contributed to my illness.
Maybe it is selfish, but I now eat meat (high welfare, free range, straight from farm)- and yes, I feel guilty about it- and I also understand that I am in a fortunate position to be able to afford this type of meat, and do not judge those who aren't.
I think it is really difficult to be healthy if you are a vegan (I thought I had a fantastic diet before I was ill).
The language you use seems fairly invidious.
You are of course entitled to your views but they are not necessarily correct (and of course, perhaps nor are mine).
