AIBU to hate most phrases regarding trying to turn the word ‘children’ into some disgustingly sickly sounding alternative?

So far my list of words I refuse to use to refer to my children:

  • tiny ones
  • little ones
  • kiddies
  • kiddos
  • little poppets

They all make me Confused

I’m not a very maternal person. I love my own children, but in general I’m not a massive fun of other people’s children. Perhaps this is why I hate these words. Grin

What phrases do you guys hate and AIBU?

And just for the record, other phrases I hate:

“Making memories,” to me everything is a memory, I don’t understand this. A lot of my memories are not good ones, so but this phrase all memories are positive. Hmm

  • “pyjammies/jammies” instead of pyjamas. It literally makes me cringe.

Thanks, Scrub!

Of course, can't believe that I didn't notice it before. Durr! Lot on my mind right now, that's my excuse Wink

coffeekittens · 26/05/2018 15:51

“Boils my piss”

nicslackey · 26/05/2018 16:56

Back in the day. When do you mean? I especially hate when it is used by 20 somethings. Back in the day for them is approx 10 minutes ago. This phrase makes me want to actually punch someone.

AmIthatbloodycold · 26/05/2018 18:19

Food related threads on here are full of annoying phrases

Huge salad - they're never small
Massive pot of chilli
Ooooh ** >insert food name>. Yum. Fuck off with your yums.

Bung it in the oven
Chuck it in a pan

Drool

I'm hungry now -yes, reading about food makes you hungry. That's how it works

Jkt pots
Toms
Spat Bol
Veg or veggies
Roasties

All get me in a food rage which is a pity because I'm missing out on ideas and recipes

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 26/05/2018 19:02

Agree that spag bol is annoying.

Also oozes class - a phrase that probably does the precise opposite.

Bung/chuck/throw when it comes to demonstrating how fast you can make something. As though 'pouring' or 'putting' just doesn't quite accurately describe just how bloody quickly you can throw together your spag bol.

Aria2015 · 26/05/2018 19:15

I don't like the term 'hubby' - reminds me of the smug married's from Bridget Jones lol!

Aeroflotgirl · 26/05/2018 19:18

Aeroflotgirl · 26/05/2018 20:03

OOh yes, little man, a friend of mine still calls her 11 year old boy, that, so annoying. Oh yes, the words sups, for dinner, no its dinner, not sups.

LakeFlyPie · 26/05/2018 20:12

greenlavender · 26/05/2018 20:34

Kids, preggers

dinosaurusrex9 · 26/05/2018 21:09

Mountainsoutofmolehills · 26/05/2018 21:20

hubby, better half, other half.....

or when people say 'you are like family'... families are notorious for screwing each other over.

MyGastIsFlabbered · 26/05/2018 21:28

Boils my piss
Holibobs

missmouse101 · 26/05/2018 21:39

‘Can I get’ instead of ‘please could I have’ (how rude), information ‘pack’ (those 2 sheets of paper you mean?), saying absolutely instead of yes. Grr!

missmouse101 · 26/05/2018 21:59

‘I was sat....’ someone plonked you down did they? Can you speak properly and say ‘I was sitting’ please?

Curious2468 · 26/05/2018 22:04

‘Fair enough’
It always sounds really patronising and dismissive to me.

Cellardoor23 · 26/05/2018 22:46

Haven't rtft, so apologies for any phrases already mentioned. Mine would be, in no chronological order;

Tittie (for dummy)
Bum change, as opposed to a nappy change
We're pregnant
Should of, could of.
Boils my piss
Makes me stabby
Makes my teeth itch
Hubby/Missus
Hun
Sweetheart - always sounds patronising to me.
On fleek/bae/shook/fam/making memories/squeee! Can't remember any other ones.

BrewDoggy · 26/05/2018 23:02

Fecking. Fucking is fine though Grin

NoSuchThingAsAlpha · 26/05/2018 23:07

The "he gave 110%" that I used to find annoying but got used to has recently suffered hyperbole inflation and is now up to 120%. Saw it used twice last week.

Keepitw0nky · 26/05/2018 23:09

My little man
My prinny (princess)
Love you all the world
Reached out to me
Believe me you
Could care less (seems to be the US version of couldn’t care less, makes no sense)
Chow down
A pink/red/nude lip
