You need to read the T&c they have permission to record

Has anyone seen the film Demon Seed??!!!!! en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demon_Seed

I have an Alexa. I would NEVER have bought one, but it was a leaving gift from my work colleagues and was really touched they’d buy something so expensive & cool. My OH is a total technophobe but loves the ability to listen to any music he pleases when he pleases for the paltry sum of £3.99 pcm. However, it does do some weird shit sometimes - we just laugh now - but I have put quite tight controls on what it can or cannot do. Great thing though - i was pleasantly surprised enough that I bought my son one for his 16th with a year’s music sub. His dad is skint at the mo (he lives with my ex DH) so they’re really loving it.

We have three and I love them. They're not connected to our phones for calling/messaging and they're not set up to allow online ordering because obviously if you set them up to do these things, there's a possibility you could do something by accident.

yerbutnobut · 26/05/2018 18:24

Would never have one. All I imagine is someone sat there rubbing their hands together at the ease of getting us all thinking they are the best thing since sliced bread. At best it does what it says on the tin and is completely innocent, at worst its listening and storing info that is/could be passed on.
A friend put it to me like this when we were discussing them a few months ago...Would you have a complete stranger sat in your home just listening and watching what you do? most people would say that they wouldn't (don't think I know anyone that would)

SemperIdem · 26/05/2018 18:34

I’d never have one. Creepy, Orwellian.

@ICantCopeAnymore - if you were talking to me in the bit about quoting, I didn't quote you; that was someone else. If you can, check out the user name at the top of each post. And your comment about not doing things because of being disabled was probably also supposed to be for the person I was parodying, rather than for me, as obviously I was joking and do not ride a horse to the market when I want to buy things, any more than you do. Hence my comment about confusion reigning. If you did mean me, then sure, I am confused, as your comments don't seem to apply to what I did write at all! In which case I happily accept the title of "confused".

That is not how they work, and if you are of that inclination then I suggest you never buy a smart tv, a laptop/pc including apple that was built after ~2006 or use any kind of social media.

Today I put on my birkenstocks for the first time this year (been wearing trainers until now).

Ads for birkenstocks popped up on my screen!

Probably a coincidence but so weird.

Lweji · 30/05/2018 18:41

They probably target ads to the weather. Wink

MsJinglyJones · 30/05/2018 18:43

Hmm but ... it was shiter weather today then the last few days! I just happened to find my birkenstocks.
