My dd had her last day yesterday of a school she has been in since she was 2 yrs old..( private)..she has had a few bad times with certain teachers in her 6 th form yrs as she doesnt do any extra curriculars..no sport or music..she just isnt that way inclined. One teacher told her she would never get into uni because of this ( even though she is top of all her a level classes) and that she would never be employed in the future( this was told to her the day before her as exam last yr)
Dd suffers anxiety...we have had a difficult time the last yr because of this and I try to build her up as the school knocks her down.
Last night was the leavers assembly. Every single child in the yr was to be called up to front of the stage in front of everyone..pupils and parents..to be give a speech about them and there time at the school from the form tutor. Dd was panicking but worked through it and I was so prould tgat she was going to go ahead with this and not back out with anxiety. Well they called every single child in the yr.giving them all raving reviews and applause and then just skipped dds name..nothing..everyone..I mean everyone got a plaque and a certificate. Then everyone dispersed and we were left sitting there wondering what it going on.
The deputy heads explanation to me when I confronted her was it was a mistake..she was left of the list. Iam now left with an inconsolable dd who takes things like this harder than most people.she is wondering how she can be in a school since 2 yrs old and she is not worth anything.
I could scream that she has to deal with this right before A Levels.

I don't have anything helpful to add, as I think the school have some serious issues with your child and it's unacceptable. But I did no extra curricular stuff, got mediocre a levels, and still went to uni and am doing a masters degree now.

YANBU. If it was done on purpose that goes beyond they beyond beyonds of cuntiNess and if it was a "mistake" the staff clearly need to up the antics

We have heard similar about a school near us OP. Whether it’s tardiness or spite I don’t know but you cannot play with the emotions of children like this.

TatianaLarina · 25/05/2018 10:04

They sound so awful I’m struggling to understand why you’d keep paying a school that treated your DD like this.

For a private school to have only a “very few children
[who] gets As” it’s a fairly shit one. Personally I’d have moved her somewhere higher achieving who appreciated her.

As you have seen, some shit private schools are fairly petty.

I hope she really enjoys uni in spite of them.

CoraPirbright · 25/05/2018 10:15

That is utterly despicable. And you’re paying for this kind of treatment???? As Creme says - is this privately owned or part of a larger group? If larger, I would be going all the way to the top to complain about this disgusting treatment.

There are so often massive rows about private vs state education on MN and this is surely an example of the oft-repeated statement that not all private schools are good. Why are so few getting A’s - surely that is part of what you are paying for? I am really shocked......

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 25/05/2018 10:19

Why didn’t you say something at the time? They could have given the speech someone had surely prepared.

bunbunny · 25/05/2018 10:39

Did they actually have the plaque and certificate up there for her, had they been made but not taken into the ceremony or not made at all?

cabbage78 · 25/05/2018 11:09

Yes they are a shit private school..and I hate paying them.we wanted to move dd to a much more academic private school for sixth form but with her anxiety issues decided to keep her with her friends for now..the teaching is awful for a lot of the subjects but dd has largely taught herself and worked her socks off! Most of the pupils are actually getting Cs And Ds with a few As here and there. But hey atleast they will all have fantasic music credentials!

Are they privately owned?

ICantCopeAnymore · 25/05/2018 11:44

Can you not formally complain?

Also, I went to private school and did no extra curricular activities other than Guiding. I am horrendous at all sport and don't have a musical bone in my body.

I had no problems whatsoever being accepted into a top University. Good luck to your daughter.

Kokeshi123 · 25/05/2018 14:07

They sound pathetic. They have an intake of pupils consisting entirely of children from families committed enough to pay private school fees, and they can't even get good academic results out of them?

Make sure word gets around in your community about what kind of school this is.
