So went for my diabeties test during pregnancy today. Was told to fast from 8pm last night. I normally eat around that time so had a early dinner with ds. Was hank Marvin this morning and had a small bowl of frosties with ds. Went to the hospital answered questions yadda yadda yadda and had my bloods taken. Waited the appropriate 3 hours then went in for the final blood test. Cake home and Went about my business and made tea for ds and hubby tonight and and seen my breakfast bowl from this morning Blush so I had brekkie and told the nurse i had fasted. What a spanner!!!! So do you think it will be make a big difference to the results? Feel like a right div

This must be a joke. You had a bowl of sugar before being tested for diabetes and are wondering if that might affect the results Hmm

SexTrainGlue · 24/05/2018 19:07

Yes, it will invalidate the results. You have to 'fess up,and rebook.

Pebblespony · 24/05/2018 19:08

Is this a wind up?

Fruitcorner123 · 24/05/2018 19:08

Yes it will especially as it's a sugary cereal. I don't know what to advise you could come clean or you coukd wait and see result. There might be a HCP on here who could advise you. That's baby brain for you!

SomeoneAteMyStrudel · 24/05/2018 19:10

Well, yeah, but only in the sense that you might have a high blood sugar reading rather than a normal one. Because your sugars will be higher post eating than they would have been if you'd been fasting.

So they aren't going to miss if you do have GDM but if you don't, they might think you do, if you see what I mean! So if you get called back to say that you have got diabetes you need to fess up that your first sample wasn't a fasting sample.

bridgetreilly · 24/05/2018 19:10

You'll need to do the test again. Tell them what happened and do it properly next time.

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 24/05/2018 19:11

You couldn't have picked a more sugary breakfast! Yes you definitely need to fess up and get the test redone.

Highhigh1982 · 24/05/2018 19:12

I think you should be going for more tests than just for diabetes OP

steff13 · 24/05/2018 19:13

Why would you eat when you had been told to fast? It was a few hours, not three days.

SoyDora · 24/05/2018 19:15

How did it not occur to you that a bowl of Frosties would mean that you hadn’t fasted?! Confused.
Anyway yes, it will invalidate the results. That’s why it’s a fasting blood test. They wouldn’t tell you to fast if you didn’t need to. You’ll have to tell them and rebook.

IHaveBrilloHair · 24/05/2018 19:16

Oh you daftie, youll have to call them and tell them as your results will be invalid.

SaucyJack · 24/05/2018 19:18

Christ. I hope you didn't accidentally feed them to your son too.

I'm not usually a food Nazi, but they really are the lowest of the low. You may as well have a Mars Bar.

strawberrypenguin · 24/05/2018 19:18

Well yes. Your results won't mean anything! You need to fast to get an accurate result and instead you ate what basically amounts to a bowl of sugar!

Sparkletastic · 24/05/2018 19:20

Oh dear

WittyJack · 24/05/2018 19:21

What a waste of money for the NHS Sad

possumgoddess · 25/05/2018 16:17

Fasting means not eating anything. At all. It would have been bad enough if you had had unsweetened porridge or a boiled egg and soldiers, but you couldn't have had much worse than heavily sugared cereal. There is no way your results would be anything like normal for somebody who had fasted so you will definitely have to have your texts done again.
