to complain to the school

DD, 12, year 7, was ill today (long term, chronic condition for context) and texted me as she wanted me to collect her so asked me to phone school.

I did and got told it was something fairly low key and so gave instructions what they were to do and then called back for an update. From what they said it seemed like she was OK to stay at school but i said I'd come and collect her immediately if needed.

Now she's home and the story I'm getting is that the French teacher said she should go home and rest, her tutor said she was OK to stay and another, universally disliked teacher, said that DD was faking it. When I say universally disliked, parents and colleagues alike; he has a reputation for being that teacher and has been the subject of several complaints.h

Would you complain to the school about him?

Do you actually know what each teacher said?

Don't go in all guns blazing, find out the facts first.

And don't stoop so low as to join in the 'we hate teacher x' club.

Why did so many teachers get involved?

At DD's secondary, if you are feeling ill, you go to the medical room and they decide whether to ring home or not.

No I wouldn't complain.

Does the school not have a medical room with dedicated medical staff? It seems unlikely a teacher would make any decisions as to whether a pupil should go home.

It was the end of French so the French teacher told the tutor, then tutor then told DD to go and see the medical person and on the way the one who has caused offence asked DD why she wasn't in class.

My default view is not to complain.

Insist on a meeting with the Head, get everyone on the same page as to handle your dd's condition
Been in exactly the same boat with ds and his ME.
He text me to go home as he was unwell and because a teacher saw him on his phone he wouldn't ring me!!
Previously teachers have ignored the agreed guidelines discussed.
Been ongoing since he started 18 months ago.
