To put in a bunch of ppi claims?

Ok so the deadline is next year and while I know I had PPI on credit cards and loans from the early 2000's I resisted putting in any claim for ages partly because I thought I wouldn't get anything back or did have the paper work but earlier this year I found some details of an old card and decided to give it a go. I got a check this morning for a healthy amount for very minimal effort and the price of a stamp so am thrilled!

I have since also uncovered several other old c/c numbers and my loan account number so am thinking what the hell might as well claim the lot and see what happens. Feels a bit cheeky but I only get the money if I was mis-sold so whats the harm or aibu?

I’ve only had a credit card in the last two years, before that no ccs, loans or mortgage.. therefore I’ve assumed I can’t have any PPI products, correct..??

So, people are saying it might have been added on to your mortgage payments without you knowing ?
If you've moved your mortgage around, do you just contact all the different companies, separately ?

I had an Arcadia group store card when I was a student and beyond for Top Shop, Dorothy Perkins and the like, and a Debenhams card. I don’t have the account numbers and I changed address a lot. Is it worth me doing it and could I do it without a middle man?

If you claim and are / have been refused pop refund you can then apply under the Plevin rule. It's to do with commission. Barclaycard have refused my PPI claim but are giving me £1200 under Plevin. The banks have their own forms online.

BlueJava · 25/05/2018 07:48

You have every right to claim if it's due - they won't pay out if it's not! So you aren't being cheeky.

Jamiefraserskilt · 25/05/2018 08:39

If you use Martin Lewis Resolver, you can do it all from one place, free of charge and monitor progress. Resolver claims tend to work faster than the usual route and are easier to manage. Laura Ashley and Express gifts are terrible at responding by the way. Banks are quite quick

When the PPI thing first blew up, I helped a client claim using template letters.

She got £17k, which was more than enough to clear all her debts.

I get the impression that PPI claims are sometimes a scam by the public, some financial institutions don't have records to prove themself innocent, so have to pay everyone who claims. I may be wrong, I hope I am.

I sometimes get the feeling that I'm the only person in Britain not to be claiming PPI refunds. I honestly can't think of any regular payment I've made in the last 25 years that could have had PPI hidden in it. Apart from my mortgage, and even then I remember checking that the interest payments corresponded with the published rates.

Barclays sent me a letter in the past few weeks virtually demanding that I make a PPI claim on one credit card they'd taken over management of. The thing is, I've never not paid a credit card balance off in full, and I check every item on my statement, so I'm 100% confident no-one got money from me they shouldn't have had. Nevertheless, they were so convincing in saying they might owe me money that it was quite difficult to throw the letter in the bin.

BackforGood · 25/05/2018 14:34

That's exactly me, Firesuit
The adverts on the local radio, on FB, on texts on cold calling, etc are relentless, and then every now and then there's a thread like this, but as I've only ever owed money on my mortgage, and was always sure to read all paperwork and keep track of payments, it seems doubtful I'd have any owing. That said, of course, it seems a shame to miss out if there is any likelihood Grin

I tried to use the MSE site, but at the time the AA (I think that's the company) weren't listed :( I'll check again.

Menarefrommarsitwouldseem · 25/05/2018 19:05

I'm currently doing this.
I've spoke to Barclays about a couple of loans I had early 2000's.
They've said there was insurance on those and they're going to write to me with calculations.

I also had a card with Dorothy Perkins. I have filled in a form for them. Along with Barclaycard.

I'm going to try and find out about the mortgages now.

Why not
I distinctly remember the woman at Barclays saying I wouldn't get a loan at 18 without it. Which was obviously a big fib.

MixedHerbs · 25/05/2018 19:39

@LannieDuck my earlier post referred to an AA loan. Search AA PPI claims and follow the links through. I think it ends with Aviva, or one of the other big insurance cos, the loans business was bought out some years ago.

LannieDuck · 25/05/2018 20:32

Ahh, thank you!

1099 · 02/07/2018 09:50

Hi All;
I saved this link just so I could do this. As a direct result of the OPs comment about believing I'd never had PPI I never bothered to submit any enquiries or claims, however when Seventygreen mentioned doing it on the banks website I thought what the hell nothing ventured. Anyway short version just got a letter telling me I'm getting 5k back. So a massive thanks to everyone for your suggestions on this thread.

I’ve recently had £1.5k of ppi back from the Halifax. I took out a couple of personal loans in the late 90s to finance car purchases. I knew I had ppi, but I was told by their representative that if I didn’t take it out I would have to pay a higher rate of interest.

I was put off claiming because I’d moved house, changed name and didn’t have any of the original paperwork. Also this relates to loans taken out 20 years ago. None of these things were actually an obstacle to claiming. I’d advise anyone who thinks these things are an obstacle to not see them as such.
