How often do you change your brand of toiletries?

Went shopping today and whilst unpacking, I realised that, the older I'm getting, the more I stick to the same brands for things like toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant, makeup etc...

In my younger (and maybe more skint) days, I'd buy whatever shampoo/conditioner/shower gel was on offer.

I'm worrying that I'm now just set in my ways and not trying new things. A very minor worry I know, but a worry non the less.

So do you buy the same things continually, or do you change it up every once in a while?

Wow people must have such time on their hands in order to be able to actually consider/think of this stuff Shock

LooseyInTheSky · 23/05/2018 21:18

As often as Boots changes it's deals. I try new stuff all the time because I see a good buy and think sod it, why not.

BlueJava · 23/05/2018 21:19

I buy the same continually - mostly because I'm not very tolerant of fragrances so everything is fragrance free. The "Simple" range from Waitrose for shampoo/conditioner/soap/deodorant. Ecover for laundry detergent and dishwasher tablets and white vinegar/bicarb for cleaning. (Unable to use air fresheners, fabric conditioners etc.) I'm probably more boring than most due to no fragrances!

iloveMiWadi · 23/05/2018 21:19

I buy whatever brand I like that's within reason. If I see a Tesco shampoo for €1 but I see a shampoo I know and like for €2 I'm obviously going to buy the €2 one for the quality.

I’ve used the same shampoo, deodorant and toothpaste since forever. I do swap bubble bath and shower gel. I buy loads of very expensive soap in exotic scents though. It’s my extravagance.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 23/05/2018 21:21

Never. I buy supermarket own brand everything.

I use the same shampoos because I am blonde but I change out my skin care when it stops working on my acne. I buy a different shower gel each time it runs out and I like buying fun ones or seasonal. Right now I have one that smells of candy floss.

Honestly if you enjoy the products there is nothing wrong with being stuck in your ways. My mum gets accused of being stuck in her ways a lot.

Andromeida59 · 23/05/2018 21:35

We've used the same shampoo now for about four years. It's worked wonders on my hair, got rid of the dandruff, no nasty chemicals and it smells amazing. If you buy a 500ml bottle it's expensive but we buy the 5l bottle from Suma and it's worked out to be really reasonable.

Cleanermaidcook · 23/05/2018 21:38

I use the same shampoo because it suits but just about everything else depends on my mood and whats on offer and how much money i have.

Dogsmom · 23/05/2018 21:42

I buy normally expensive shampoos when they're on offer not because I'm skint but because I like a bargain, I always buy dove body wash because it makes my skin softer than any other brands.

SaucyJack · 23/05/2018 21:43

I buy the same deodorant, mascara and pull-ups every time, but everything else is a free for all.

Depends on offers, what scent we all fancy, how gullible I'm feeling that this is the product that will undo 20 years of boozing, yadda yadda.

DP sticks with the same every time tho. Whatever floats your boat.

Freyanna · 23/05/2018 21:43

I buy Dove, but everyone gives it to me as presents too, I love the scent.

I always buy the same toothpaste.

mookinsx · 23/05/2018 21:47

Deodorant - I have two I use a male one and a female one
I find almost all spray ons go into a powder in my arm pits and don't work so I don't want to change

Body wash - I use bars of soap so that changes between body shop or whatever I find I am loving the Hemp soap from body shop or from supermarkets the johnsons baby honey soap (think it's 4 bars for a £1 and doesn't dry my skin)
For DP whatever I pick up

Shampoo-
I switch it up but love a few staples
For DP he likes head and shoulders

Toothpaste - whatever is on offer

And for most other toiletries and household items like laundry and cleaning
If I don't already buy the basic range then whatever is on offer

Love to try new things though so if anyone has any firm favourites I'd love to hear!

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 23/05/2018 21:48

Depends how much money I've got at the time. The Chanel lipstick and No.7 make up remover bit the dust when I had a whole house to pay for, and I've downgraded further since having nursery fees to pay. Usually I get whatever is on special offer. I'm fussy about eye make up remover, fancy soap and decent hand cream, but otherwise I get what is cheap. Tesco's own shampoo and conditioner are really crap though. I'll be glad when that's all gone.

feliciabirthgiver · 23/05/2018 21:57

I love that people criticise the time on your hands OP and yet have plenty of time on their hands to reply to your post!

Anyway, love a bargain so try something on offer next time.

Bumble1830 · 23/05/2018 22:04

I tend to stick with the same makeup (brand and colour) as i hope know they suit me. Everything else like shower gel, deodorant etc I usually get whatever is on offer, they all tend to do the same thing anyway

Shad0wsz · 23/05/2018 23:39

Buy different, use presents that are gratefully received. Use freebies from traveling

Leeds2 · 24/05/2018 00:31

I generally buy whatever is on special offer at the supermarket when I need it.

BedtimeTea · 24/05/2018 04:28

I stick with what my allergies can handle, so no. If it's not broke, don't fix it. :)

ThisIsTheFirstStep · 24/05/2018 04:32

I live in Korea and the number of cosmetics and beauty shops is ridiculous. I just buy whatever I get sucked into, 99% of it is just normal but the odd thing I rebuy because it’s actually great.

MrsLaurac · 24/05/2018 06:36

Shampoo and conditioner are whatever big brand is on promo. I do buy a cheap supermarket conditioner for swimming though. Toothpastes and deodorant are same really. I dont really buy make-up
