To ask how much you had for a house deposit

smileplease6 · 23/05/2018 19:59

Not something I can ask people in real life Grin

We are looking to buy - is a 30% deposit about average, good or not so good? This if for a £350k house.

Good! We had 5% in 2016 - we would have preferred 10 but the market was moving faster than we could save

ikeepaforkinmypurse · 23/05/2018 20:58

that's really good, but you will see by yourself if your mortgage rate is based on the percentage you borrow.

For my very first home had a £25k deposit for a £115 flat.

BillyAndTheSillies · 23/05/2018 20:59

14k which was 10% on a flat in 2011, had a short lease and we spent the rest of our savings extending the lease two years later - almost doubled the property value just from that. Upsized by releasing 70k from it for our next house in 2014.
30% for a FTB is awesome.

coastalchick · 23/05/2018 21:25

140k on a 700k house which translates as 80%

First house I owned, nothing as got 100% mortgage (2003 - still own it though).

Second house 33k on a 330k house (so 10%).

The most recent one was bought jointly and some deposit cane from sale of the 330k house hence was higher.

Lazypuppy · 23/05/2018 21:28

We put 11k down on a £215k house (5%). Hopefully will have enough to do 10% on next house which will be around 350k

xyzandabc · 23/05/2018 21:32

1st house - 14%
2nd house - 45%
3rd house - 47%

All increases due to rising in house prices and a little overpayment of mortgage.

Andromeida59 · 23/05/2018 21:32

First home (flat), we put down £10k on a flat worth £87k in 07. Now worth £160. Paid £46 deposit on house worth £225k. Rental on 1st property is paying the mortgage on our new home. 30% is a really good amount and will get you better deals.

LadyGrey66 · 23/05/2018 21:33

First house, 21k (10%) 2 years ago, just about to buy second house with 150k deposit (approx 30%). 30% is a good amount in my opinion.

YetAnotherUser · 23/05/2018 21:33

£12K, 10%

Living in the south.

happytobemrsg · 23/05/2018 21:35

15% - we had to borrow the vast majority of this from family

Shad0wsz · 23/05/2018 21:37

First 10% deposit plus all fees etc All subsequent purchases 100% plus fees

MountainPeakGeek · 23/05/2018 21:37

As FTBs in 1995 we had a 15% deposit, but that was down to dh's wonderfully generous grandparents, as opposed to any of our own savings.

ibblebibbledibble · 23/05/2018 21:37

Surely this is a boast thread? Does anybody really need to ask if £105,000 is good for a deposit?!

kally195 · 23/05/2018 21:38

First house we paid cash, second house we had an 82% deposit.

Echobelly · 23/05/2018 21:39

Yes, 30% is good. I inherited some money so I had unusually good deposits (roughly 50%, 22%, 30% respectively) but about 10% is normal.

altkat · 23/05/2018 21:39

5% on a 105k flat that we paid 112k for (Edinburgh offers over strikes again, otherwise we've had put 10%) but we're just in the process of selling it for 181k and putting down 25% on a 185k flat (remainder to be spent on decoration/furniture/first family holiday with toddler). The prices where we are are astronomical right now - found the new place for a fixed price and had our flat on the market and our offer accepted subject to sale in two days. It took us one week to sell.

flamingofridays · 23/05/2018 21:40

It's good our first deposit was 5%! About 4 and a half grand! That was only 3.5 years ago.

PurpleRobe · 23/05/2018 21:43

2006 = 10%
2010 = 22%
Our final house in a few years will be about 40%

ilovesooty · 23/05/2018 21:44

I can't even remember.

Polarbearflavour · 23/05/2018 21:45

50k on 148500.

Housemover18 · 23/05/2018 21:48

1st house 10% in 2009
2nd house 30% in 2014
3rd house 40% in 2018 (hopefully)

sprite25 · 23/05/2018 22:04

Is it still possible to get a 100% mortgage? I know nothing about this sort of stuff

Babynut1 · 23/05/2018 22:06

1st house was 5% so about £3500
Current house £30000 on a £150000 house

NeverSurrender · 23/05/2018 22:07

we put in everything we had - about 17%. If we could go back we'd have put 10% in and kept the extra few thousand for fees and some essential work when we moved in!

CroakingCrocus · 23/05/2018 22:08

45% deposit from a combination of inheritance and years of saving. London so we still had a massive mortgage on top. We were very lucky.
