...to my lovely Muslim neighbours, who always bring a selection of tasty dishes every Ramadan. Beef samosas, onion bhajis, spiced chickpeas, and beef biryani (with what tasted like prime roasting beef). All seasoned to perfection, all the flavour without that awful heat that take away restaurants often have that I really cannot tolerate (sensitive gob!).

Every year they do this, take food out to several of us in our little courtyard of 16 homes, and I know the lady cooks most of the day to prepare, while not eating a thing until sunset herself. No wonder her husband and children look so content, coming home to delicious meals like that that are made with such love and care. And they are the nicest family, too. Having read some of the horror stories on here about nightmare neighbours, it feels nice to share the other side, of good and kind folk.

Just thought I'd share (the news, not the food. The food is mine!).

Sounds delicious!

I’d love someone to bring that round.

Sprinklesinmyelbow · 23/05/2018 19:27

It’s lovely but I have so many stressed and exhausted friends at the moment trying to keep up with all the cooking and gifts whilst fasting, Ramadan does seem to put a lot of pressure on Muslims. Like December for Christians I guess

Luisa27 · 23/05/2018 19:29

Ooooh yum - lucky you Smile

TatianaLarina · 23/05/2018 19:31

I year ya OP.

When Grenfell happened last year, Muslims from all over the country packed their cars full of clothes and food and drove down to donate to the survivors and volunteer to help - it was really inspiring.

hushnowthanks · 23/05/2018 19:36

House swap, OP? Grin

taeglas · 23/05/2018 19:38

How lovely to have such fabulous neighbours. Enjoy your food.
My lovely Greek Cypriot neighbour has just given me some freshly made dolmades and olive pasties.
I so appreciate having such lovely neighbours. Smile

Babyroobs · 23/05/2018 19:42

We are currently creeping round the only muslim person in our office who is grumpy and jaded through lack of food. No one is daring to eat around him and kind of hiding food under their desks.

Skyblueray · 23/05/2018 19:43

Last friday night my lovely muslim neighbour also knocked on my door bearing lovely tasting food, he gave me a nice huge seasoned leg of chicken and lots of pakora it was so tasty i love ramadan Grin

desertmum · 23/05/2018 19:48

lucky you! We lived in Middle East for 25 years and this is something I miss. Our neighbour used to make an awesome dessert with chocolate and condenced milk and biscuity stuff. A huge sugar overload but delicious and a Ramadan treat.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 23/05/2018 19:49

I am deeply deeply jealous Envy

IlikemyTeahot · 23/05/2018 19:51

Ooh lucky you OP! Maybe a tray of cakes/biscuits or an eid card in return would surely be appreciated Wink

LokiBear · 23/05/2018 20:00

Sounds lovely. Do you do anything in return as a thank you? My mums neigbbours often bring Indian food around to my parents house on their kid's birthdays. Mum alway rings me and asks me to bake a cake. They get the lively food and I get to make the thank you gift - something ckearky wrong witb this set up!

LokiBear · 23/05/2018 20:01

Lovely^

GinIsIn · 23/05/2018 20:18

@Lokibear yes - we used to take food in return - DH’s mum is Jewish so I always make a Friday night dinner, (Even though we are atheists and we never see his mum - the tradition has stuck!) and I would make extra most weeks and pop some round. The wife of the family next door was an A&E doctor and worked a lot of night shifts at the weekends so I used to plate one extra meal up in Tupperware for her to take to work.

APairofScarletSequinedWings · 23/05/2018 20:28

Ilikemyteahot Way ahead of ya! I handmake a card and take flowers for Eid.

Hushnowthanks erm, no, I don't think so, I likes it here Grin

You've made me
Hungry op! Can I come round please

Charlieandthechocolatecake · 24/05/2018 00:36

As a Christian I need to say how truly wonderful this is. Our Muslim brothers and sisters are not recognised for these kind acts in the daily fail.

My close Muslim friend has gone no contact for the next month because of her pre-concieved grouchiness! Oh I wish I lived next to a good Muslim cook during Ramadan. May God bless them all and their kind acts!

Gagastwin · 24/05/2018 01:17

So jealous, I am on Exante at the min and would die for a samosa!

BoreOfWhabylon · 24/05/2018 01:23

@ziggzagg please would you share your turkish bread recipe?

ziggzagg · 24/05/2018 08:10

@BoreOfWhabylon Oh I'm really sorry! I pre-bought the Turkish bread! Haven't mastered that yet!Grin

BoreOfWhabylon · 24/05/2018 08:29

Damn! Grin
