To ask if kids can get shingles?

DD2 had a pretty bad stomach bug approx 3 weeks ago. She hasn’t picked up since then and seems to be struggling with fatigue, nausea and muscular aches in back and shoulders. Changing her out of school uniform just now and noticed a rash going from her sternum around her rib cage to the back. It looks like shingles, me and DH have both had it in the past so aware what it looks like.

Really thought shingles only presented in adults. Awaiting a call back from GP but some wisdom would be gratefully received whilst I wait.

Yep! I have a large scar just below my eyebrow from where I had it when I was 11.

I had it at 17 - whilst doing my A-levels. Not a good mix.

I had it aged 8.
I was pretty tired for about 3 weeks, but otherwise was ok.
I gather it's a lot worse if you get it as an adult

I had it when I was 10. The rash affected mostly my left leg and the pain in my knee was incredible.

I was off school for ages though I definitely milked an extra week at the end. Blush Sorry, Mum!

The GP I first saw had to get another doctor to see me as they didn't have a clue! Though mostly I think they were unsure as didn't expect to see it in a 10 year old.

Yep DD had it a few weeks ago

They get very tired but she managed school.

My DD1 had it aged 10- GP1 had never seen a case before in a child, GP2 had seen one before, but a blister fluid test confirmed.
It was realtively mild and symptoms passed quickly.
Antivirals are not recommended for kids.

She stayed home for 3 days until the blisters dried up.

DS had it aged 6. He had chicken pox at 9 months.

I thought it was an eczema flare he had no pain and didn't appear unwell. I did take him to GP though who diagnosed.

Both GP and class teacher saud to send him to school. Both said that as he'd had the rash for 4/5 days it woyldn't make a difference as anyone who might catch it would have anyway was about 17 years ago though so advice might have changed!
