My hairdresser has come and gone.....

She cuts my hair really well and as it’s a particular style I haven’t found anyone to cut it like her so have to grin and bear.

However when she leaves there is hair everywhere!
We cut in the kitchen and literally she’ll put her bag on the counter furthest away and constantly going back and forth so it’s not contained in just one part.
I cover the area where we are cutting with paper.
She then always uses the bathroom and basically shakes herself off there so there is hair everywhere and my hair is dark black.
Today this is how she left it (I have vacuumed the hair already) but the toilet stinks, the lid is left up and there’s footprints everywhere Angry
AIBU at being a little angry and what can I do or say to her next time? Or do I just suck it up?

Handheld cordless vac will leave the floors clean in no time.

As for her using the loo, either get a bottle of essential oil - peppermint or eucalyptus are the cheapest and readily available here - or buy some poo pourri and when she wants to use the loo, tell her you're trialing this stuff so asking everyone if they're doing a smelly to put 5 drops of the oils on the water or however many sprays it says on the poo pourri before they use the loo.

Yes please @TomRavenscroft, that'd be brilliant!

The shear nature of cutting hair means it goes everywhere,

I saw what you did there, Clutterbug...

busybarbara · 23/05/2018 13:29

This is the price of entry for having hair cut at home. You are paying less most of the time because of this, though also because mobile hairdressers are the ones not good enough to attract a customer base who'll travel to see them.

TomRavenscroft · 23/05/2018 13:31

mobile hairdressers are the ones not good enough to attract a customer base who'll travel to see them.

Certainly not true as a blanket statement. Many of them are like mine, who worked in a salon and was very popular, but went mobile for a combination of personal and economic reasons. She also offers appointments at her own home, so some people do travel to see her.

ittakes2 · 23/05/2018 13:32

My hairdresser doesn't pick up or sweep any hair - so I tend to go to her house when I can.

Yuse pays your money, Yuse takes your choice.

'The list is endless. Why is it offensive?'

It isn't, one person was trying to start a fight suggesting saying 'my' was odd.

If you mean me, it was a reference to another thread. I don't think it's at all weird to say "my hairdresser" if it makes sense in the context in which it's being used.

Hoover and mop the floor.
Clean and bleach the toilet.
Spray air freshener and open the window.
Go out and show off your lovely new hair on this beautiful afternoon.

Frequency · 23/05/2018 19:17

Hair flies everywhere when you use clippers. If there is a way to prevent that, I wish someone had shown me when I was training.

She goes to your bathroom to shake off because she removes her top (and possibly her bra) and shakes them. It's the only way to get rid of the tiny hairs that have flown into her clothes (and bra) and are giving her a rash. Wearing an apron doesn't help.

If someone asked me to stop shaking off my clothes in their bathroom, of course, I would comply. I'd also value other clients over the one who leaves me uncomfortable until I can get to a place where I can shake my clothes out. It is really uncomfortable having millions of tiny, spiky hairs collecting under your top and pooling in your bra.

Mobile hairdressers are not cheaper than salons in my area. We charge the same/more/whatever we believe our skill is worth. My clients are paying for the convenience of having me to come to them. It's usually SAHM or people who work long hours and want later appointments than most salons offer. The convenience of not wasting your saturday afternoon in the salon or finding a babysitter for your kids is what you are paying for.

On every hair professional forum I am a member of mobile or freelance stylists are advised to match the local salon prices.

LalaLeona · 24/05/2018 17:20

Don't understand why your hair dresser is getting covered in hair and having to shake herself off? My mobile hair dresser does the whole family's hair and it all goes on the floor not on her! Very strange

DitheringBlidiot · 24/05/2018 18:51

Missing the point but does everyone use air freshener? I don’t have it at home so it wouldn’t occur to me to use it anywhere else. You’d be much more upset if she’d taken a shit on for kitchen floor. What do you think a toilet is for?

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 24/05/2018 18:54

She left hair on the floor and did a poo in the toilet. It's not that terrible.

Mousefunky · 24/05/2018 19:24

Not true about mobile hairdressers. My DM has been one for years, since I was little. She worked in a salon initially but this was pre-Blair so pre minimum wage and she earned pittance. Without tips, we couldn’t live basically. So she went mobile, some of her custom followed her and she has built up more over the years (some of my old school friends still go to her for example). She does pretty well for herself.

Anyway, she also ALWAYS cleans up for customers or at least will offer to! It is basic manners to my DM and I’d argue to anyone making a mess in someone else’s home. As for the shit, that’s kinda gross. I wouldn’t shit in a strangers house anyway but I definitely wouldn’t leave a smell.
