Are these headlice?

Just that really, everything I've found online says headlice get no bigger than 3mm or the size of a sesame seed. These are much bigger, the size of a grain of rice. Anatomically they look like lice, just so big!

Grasped - greased

Thehop · 22/05/2018 22:30

Run the straighteners through your hair on high. Burn the little shits to death.

Then a nitty gritty comb to keep at bay as the next generations hatch.

DesignedForLife · 22/05/2018 22:41

DH suggested straighteners to burn them. Good idea.

Squishing those little nuggets between your nails and hearing them crack... very satisfying.

Good luck!

FizzyGreenWater · 22/05/2018 22:45

Hedrin.

It doesn't poison them - it suffocates them. So it does work.

It's the only thing I've managed to tackle them with when I have them - I just can't seem to get them with the comb on myself.

beela · 22/05/2018 22:45

Nitty little bastards.

Mousefunky · 22/05/2018 22:46

Feel your pain. My DD’s had nits last month. I washed their hair with tea tree shampoo and conditioner then put a second coat of the conditioner on and left it in to rake through it with the nit comb. Wipe the comb after every comb with kitchen/toilet roll. Then I doused their hair in nit killing spray stuff and blasted it with the hair dryer. Did it every day for 5 days, realised I was getting no closer to bought hedrin and they were gone straight away. Never returned.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 22/05/2018 22:47

That's a lice!

Nitty gritty with conditioner on dry hair.

They're just nits. No worry really.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 22/05/2018 22:47

Straighteners work a treat on headline!

ILikeyourHairyHands · 22/05/2018 22:48

Yes, Hedrin does work too!

coffeecoffeemorecoffee · 22/05/2018 22:50

Hedrin 100% and a nutty gritty comb!

coffeecoffeemorecoffee · 22/05/2018 22:50

Nitty gritty **

loubeylou68smellsofreindeerpoo · 22/05/2018 22:56

You need to treat the hair with lotion on the 1st 3rd and 7th day to break the lifecycle of the lice

Shiftymake · 22/05/2018 23:01

I stick to Hedrin, I react very badly to them to they need to be gone pronto!

Papergirl1968 · 22/05/2018 23:05

Loads of conditioner. Leave in for ages and then comb through . Repeat every day or two.

Ryder63 · 22/05/2018 23:07

I had them as a child, roll on many years.... caught them from DC, then years later from DGC. Some things never change! Grin

Happy32 · 22/05/2018 23:08

Wet your hair and apply conditioner or don't wet it but apply loads of conditioner until your hair feels wet. And more of them will come out. Good luck!

Happy32 · 22/05/2018 23:08

When you're taking your comb through it* missed the big step there lol

mickeysminnie · 22/05/2018 23:11

Comb through continuously and yes to the straighteners!

viques · 22/05/2018 23:19

Also really make sure you brush your child's hair thoroughly in the morning and especially after school.

School nurse used to say" If you break their legs they don't lay eggs"

Obviously do all the nitty gritty stuff as well, but damaging the odd little sucker helps to keep them at bay if one has hitched a lift home.

MyShinyWhiteTeeth · 22/05/2018 23:23

I tried Hedrin and the electric zapper. The Hedrin caused quite a bit irritation and the zapper didn't seem to work.

I found my nitty gritty comb with plenty of conditioner worked the best and we just do a weekly comb through to check.

eileandonan · 22/05/2018 23:24

yep no doubt thats a mama...it took me three months to clear my DD hair of these nasties. She has super thick hair and every time I thought we won the battle nope there they were.

StellaWouldYouTakeMeHome · 22/05/2018 23:27

Yes that’s lice

NicEv · 22/05/2018 23:37

Hedrin fan here too - and also we use the vosene nit shampoo and conditioner every week on the whole family!
