Had Mirena replaced a few months ago.

Started new full time job about same time.

Forgot to go and get it checked. Then last month my cervical screening reminder came through.

Got around to phoning the GP today to try and kill two birds with one stone and do both in the same appt.

I need to book a day off and book an appt as I have a job which involves booking appts with clients.

No cannot do that and I have to phone for an on the day appt for both and they have no proof I have had a Mirena so will need the Dr to instigate appt.

Why the fuck would I go and have a Mirena checked thatcI haven’t had fitted?!

To sort this issue (and I was perfectly polite) I need to phone the practice manager tomorrow.

WTAF? It’s such a hassle to get an appt I hardly ever bother but I always get screened.

Alien so if they offer you 1130 then just take a morning off and go in at lunchtime?

Dylan it does seem strange, smears have never been book on the day anywhere I’ve ever worked.

Just take a morning off... with gay abandon...
why didn’t I think of that? Because I can’t Shock

That could only work if you work close to home. Less so if you have an 1.5 hour commute and can't stay late to make up time due to child care and/or when your work is open.

I take time off work for all my GP and dentist appointments. Also for all the kids' GP, orthodontist, dentist, parents evening (many being in fact late afternoon), sports days, hospital appointments. I can get the time off work and, yes, its struggle and juggle. I'm left with little time off in a block just for a holiday. I thought everyone did the same.

Oh don't get me started.

I had the implant in which caused no end of problems from crying, bleeding constantly, anger, depression, thyriod.... the list really does go on.

I rang to get it out in quite a state. They said I'm sorry you will have to have a phone call appointment with a doctor first.

A week later I did that.

He then interrogated me like a criminal about it. Then after that told me I would have to book an appointment with the nurse! at FPC to discuss it and methods further. I said what's the point as I have spoken to you. He said sorry I'm unable to make you an appointment and they have to do it.

I went to FPC and burst into tears over it all. She then booked me an appointment to have it removed 2 weeks later.

I literally jumped through hoops!

Its ridiculous.

I was ill last year and tried to get a doctors appointment. Their system is stupid, I had to wait for a triage nurse to ring me back to ascertain whether an urgent appointment was required. I told them I just want a doctors appointment, I am genuinely ill! They didn't ring me back until 12pm. I called back a couple of times chasing it up too.

TheGlitterFairy · 25/05/2018 07:37

Agee it’s ridiculous - way too hard to see a GP when you work and can’t just go at any time.

Would suggest booking the smear test and asking the nurse if they can take a look at the same time. Least you’ll be half way there with appts if nothing else.

Agree this shouldn’t have to be the way Hmm
