They cut my gorgeous cherry tree down

I know it’s not important in the grand scheme of things.
I had a garden maintenance business is to give me a quote to cut down couple of conifers, pull up some bushes and bring my hedge down to a manageable height.
I’ve come home from work to find they’ve also cut down my gorgeous 30 foot cherry tree. I’m so upset! We have zero privacy upstairs now and I hate how it looks.
I was really clear on what I wanted them to do. I text him and all I got was “sorry I misunderstood you”
Suggestions please to make a horrible hedge look better!
Aibu to be close to tears? (Be gentle with me-shit day at work dealing with idiots!!)

Update - he has said he will happily plant a mature tree of our choosing. I know it won’t fill the space but at least it’s a start.

Well, that's something, I suppose.

This firm has some good sized cherries in stock ... for around £1,500...

I'm not surprised you're upset OP, I'd be inconsolable. I cried when my idiot ex chopped down a beautiful ceanothus that was outside my kitchen window, and that was only about 6' tall and no more than 6 years old. It was lovely though, and was covered with bees when it was in flower. I used to spend ages watching them.

The dickhead claimed he thought it was part of the hedge - lonicera nitida and nothing like a fucking ceanothus. I never replaced it because I couldn't remember what variety it was and have never been able to identify it.

LakieLady, that post was months ago. Read the recent update. He has failed to organise the replacement and is ignoring the OP. They are taking him to small claims court.

I remember this thread, it was so shocking. Hope you get a good outcome.

OMG, not RTWT but I would have been heartbroken. A tree person wrecked one of our trees when they were there doing other stuff once - I mentioned this particular tree in passing, but said I would have a think about whether or not to do anything with it first, so it was left like that. A few hours later and behind my back it was badly altered and looked terrible. I've also had other trees with too much taken off so they look wrong, just misshapen or top-heavy etc.

If I had to have tree guys in for pruning type works ever again, I would set up camp outside with a flask of tea and watch their every move!!!

MrsJDornan · 29/01/2019 22:30

I hope you get your tree, he's stupid for giving you no other option than to take him to the small claims court, could've sorted it himself without this but decided ignoring you was better, silly man

RCohle · 29/01/2019 22:56

Good on you for taking him to court OP, I hope you get a good outcome.

Glad you're taking him to court now. I remember this thread from last year, shocked it's still going on!
