EBAY and the famous 'chancers', take my warning

I didn't realise it was a big thing before selling a load of stuff...

I've sold 10 items, 2 of which have been reported as 'not received'. 1 I've had to refund because she says I said the dress was mint green but she insists it's 'teal'. It's brand new with tags, designer label.

One of these three people even had the cheek to say they didn't receive it, but they signed for it with their signature.

Apparently this isn't the case, and someone has tried doing her signature for her.

eBay seem 100% on the buyer's side, no matter the outlandish reasoning.

I've looked at the feedback from two of these people and lots of people have said they claimed they didn't receive when they know they'd sent the item(s).

I'm gobsmacked. Cheeky fuckers.

Of course my recommendation of VC can only work for designer stuff, more or less. I’m not sure where I’d go to sell other things.

Hi there! A bit of a side issue, me jumping in here maybe, but is that right about cutting out the labels for resale? Want to make sure I’m doing the right thing! Is that just shop/online retailer card tags you’re talking about? Presumably nobody has to cut out sewn-in brand labels (which is really what the ‘Top Shop’ instance was about, I think? That does sound fake to me). If I’ve never got round to wearing something and it still has its store/website/price labels attached, I tend to sell it on with the labels intact so that whoever buys it can see it’s genuinely unworn, if it’s been listed as unworn, which is obviously a plus for a buyer. Am I contravening something? Does this apply to all sellers or just professional sellers, and does it apply in all countries? Hard to see how someone could manage to return things to a store given that they won’t have a store receipt and it’s probably long gone stock from original sale by the time it’s been resold.

I had one 3 weeks ago. She complained about not getting it within less than 2 days of sending it. I advertised 2nd class post with 3 working days and sent it next day. She was aggressive so I refunded straight away, as I did not want the hassle and unsigned, the post office will refund. She left bad feedback, even with the refund, something I never do. I checked her feedback, she left bad feedback of almost everyone. I contacted ebay, as it is obvious she is a scammer getting things for free, ebay are at fault, they are not interested in getting rid of such people.

That is true wholesalers cut the labels but they always state it in ads and usually sell in bulk, I buy lots of m&S undies. Go careful if it is one item, things from designer sample sales will not have a label to begin with. Someone, not a bulk seller sold me a 'chanel' top with the label cut out because it was never a 'chanel' at any point. Nobody would cut that label if it was their own unworn item

I won’t be selling via eBay now I’ve read this thread!

@Burberry I wonder if we have had the same buyer re the colour!

I sold a beautiful Betty Jackson dress in May - black skirt and steel grey top with beads (once worn, perfect condition). Had been round a few times, and then suddenly bids got above £10.

Posted and as soon as the seller received I got a refund request (i don’t do refunds as I am not Marks and bloody Spencer), saying that the dress was not what she bid for it was purple - with photo attached - and the dress was purple in photo - swear it had been photoshopped!

I issued a refund and told her to keep it, as I really couldn’t be bothered with the hassle, but as I started to read through her feedback (big problem with not being able to leave a negative for a buyer) there was lots of comments that she has done similar to other people but not returned the item. Did report her to eBay in the vague hope that other have done the same and it may have an impact at some point.

I was in the middle of a huge clear out, and was so hacked off I bundled up the rest of my stuff to sell - some bargains were given away!

To top it all off - she re-sold the dress for £40 weeks later (I was snooping) and described it as steel grey!!

Ebay is a great place to buy stuff, a terrible place to sell.

If you are selling something, keep a very close eye on your bidders & cancel the bid of anyone who has dodgy feedback. This is great fun, explaining to people that you're not interested in selling to them because three sellers have posted a warning about their unethical behaviour.

What's the rule on sellers sending the wrong items?
I brought a screwdriver set online, and they sent me a grinding disc. Definitely the sellers fault, I contacted them, a week later they emailed me a returns label (I don't have a printer) and told me to sort it out and take it to the post office if I want a refund.
I don't want a refund, I want my original item, I don't even have an angle grinder and I don't need a bloody disc.
But surely I shouldn't be super inconvenienced by their mistake? I'm not a chancer, but feel like arguing with them is going to make it sound like I want a free grinding disc (I don't) I just want what I ordered and paid for.

I only ever use Gumtree and Facebook local. Buyer collects, or I sometimes say I will deliver locally at no extra cost, because it means it's a face to face transaction and people bring cash so no problem with payments and goods not received.

It's too uncertain sending things through the post and dealing remotely is full of risk and pitfalls.

It's like OLD, websites should only ever be used as the initial starting point. Get the transaction into the real world as quickly as possible, with voice and face to face contact.
