Dh weird ways with rubbish

My dh recycles like crazy. A good thing but we have no storage for rubbish and dh collects our average of 3 recycling bins and just chucks them in the garden until bin day. Super annoying. Now it’s summer there are 3 bin bags currently sitting in our tiny garden and flies everywhere.
Not to mention last week a fox ripped one open.
He says that because there’s ‘no food’ in the bags (he washes every recycling item) no animal would want to go near them. He is in denial about the sudden influx of flies round the bags.

Another thing he says is I shouldn’t vacuum up food from dinner because that’s disgusting. Am I weird in that?! I thought everyone vacuums up crumbs etc on their kitchen floors. Obviously if a huge lump of fish was on the floor I’d clean it up but general things like peas I’m good to go and roll over them with the dyson.
I empty the vacuum once a week.
Aibu to a. Get some kind of actual outdoor bin storage as dh says it’s really not necessary and
b. Keep up with the vacuuming after dc dinner else I apparently will be manually sweeping it up forever...
Feel so ridiculous typing this but I am beginning to question my ways and maybe even sanity!

I have a dustpan and brush with long handles so I can sweep the area under the highchair without bending over. I wouldn’t hoover up peas, that’s gross.

ScattyCharly · 23/05/2018 20:56

I wouldn’t hoover up anything other than crumbs or bits (like crisps). Not peas.

Recycling. You need to get some lidded bins of some description to go outside

ErictheGuineaPig · 23/05/2018 21:01

We don't have recycling bins, only bags, and no flies or smells at all from them. Is he definitely rinsing them out properly? Where should he put them if not in the garden?

CasperGutman · 23/05/2018 21:04

This thread is full of people assuming every council's waste collection arrangements are like their own.

"Just put it in your blue bin!"

"People have pink bags if there is no room for a bin!"

Listen: every council does this differently. We've had a blue bin, two different coloured crates with lids, and now we have green bags. Just because you've only experienced one system, doesn't mean it applies everywhere!

I agree with caspar. We currently divide our time between three homes. The recycling arrangements and what can be recycled is completely different in every area.

Ok so I’ve gone over rubbish, what about dh washing plates before going in the dishwasher. Is this normal? I tend to just throw most plates straight in. He rinses them until they ‘look’ clean then puts them in the dishwasher. This really annoys me. I’m probably in the wrong but omg what is the point of a machine when you’re going to waste a load of water half cleaning the stuff. Just go whole hog and add soap surely?!

I’m a bit of a recycling enthusiast too so I’m dissappointed to hear your DH hasn’t created a lovely storage system for his - -hobby- -. You should direct him to Pinterest to spark his interest. Wink

I wouldn’t hoover up food. But then my dog wouldn’t give me time to get the hoover out. Grin

I don't have a dishwasher now but when I did I most definitely did rinse before putting in the dishwasher.

Sprinklesinmyelbow · 26/05/2018 17:01

Peas just dry up in the hoover btw. I’ve found loads hoovered in error

Fatted · 26/05/2018 17:09

Ours recycling goes in bags. We hang it up on hooks in the back garden. Never have an issue with flies or animals trying to get at it.

I hoover food up but I am lazy.
