AIBU to think you don't try clothes on when you're sweaty from running?!

Went for a run with a sort of friend this morning - we met because we run the same track and ended up becoming kind of casual running buddies.

We walk back afterwards through the town square and the friend mentioned she was popping into a shop to try on a couple of dresses on the way home. Considering we had just run ten miles and were properly red and sweaty and disgusting, I was a bit surprised. I asked her if she didn't think it was a bit grim and she laughed and said 'oh who cares, people are probably sweaty when they've been walking around town anyway!'

AIBU in still thinking this is a bit gross?? She thinks I'm being precious...

That is really really gross what a minger.

Thundercracker · 22/05/2018 11:31

Yuck.

Loopytiles · 22/05/2018 11:33

Ew

MrsJayy · 22/05/2018 11:34

Oh thats grim did she buy anything or just spread her sweatiness about

Fatted · 22/05/2018 11:34

It's disgusting.

But she also has a point. You don't know where clothes have been before you buy them from the shop! Doesn't excuse her behaviour though.

BellaHadidHere · 22/05/2018 11:34

Yeah I think it's a little bit grim but I think your mate's probably right that lots of sweaty people try on clothes every day. However, being sweaty from running does take it to a new level- like it's purposeful rather than accidental sweat transfer.

But I can't imagine that trying on dresses when you've been for a 10 mile run is much fine... in a 12" by 122 changing room peeling your sweaty body out of your running gear, winching it into a pretty frock and then turning to a horrible mirror to admire your big red blotchy beetroot head and birds nest hair in said frock. No thanks.

1moreRep · 22/05/2018 11:35

i agree but there's also plenty of sweaty people with running makeup who stink who also try clothes on.

DuchyDuke · 22/05/2018 11:35

Did shops let her though? Local shops actually prevent you from going into the changing room if you’re in gym kits / sweaty.

Lethaldrizzle · 22/05/2018 11:36

Eeeuuwwgghh! It's a bit like people who think nothing of weeing in swimming pools!

WatchingFromTheWings · 22/05/2018 11:37

I worked in a clothes shop for a few years. We'd get people coming in who'd clearly been to the gym prior to shopping. Also had them come in straight from spray tans too.

Pebblespony · 22/05/2018 11:37

Gross.

magoria · 22/05/2018 11:38

I went to get a bikini wax all freshly showered out if consideration for the waxer.

She had a pack of baby wipes when getting ready and was telling me people came straight from the gym around the corner with no shower for waxing.

Poor bloody woman.

whyhastherumgone · 22/05/2018 11:38

I don't know if they let her/she bought anything as I didn't hang around to join her - I was keen to get home and have a shower!

I know people might be sweaty etc but I feel like this is different, it's knowingly trying something on aware that you are quite frankly, gross. I mean it's a hot day out, our running kit was sticking to us with sweat patches (I'm aware I'm making myself sound pretty grim now but hey, I'm not trying on dresses!).
If you're an oblivious stinker trying on clothes, surely that's a different kettle of fish entirely?

@1moreRep

Once in Primark I was looking at the jeans at the same time as a woman who smelt very strongly of cheesy wotsits.

She picked up the only size 8 left (the size I wanted) and ambled off to the changing rooms. I saw her a few minutes later come back and put the 8s back to replace them for 10s. As you can imagine.. I'd gone off these jeans by then.

I always wash new clothes before I wear them now.

BellaHadidHere · 22/05/2018 11:39

oblivious stinker

whyhastherumgone · 22/05/2018 11:48

Cheesy wotsits = boak.

BellaHadidHere · 22/05/2018 11:51

@whyhastherumgone

Yep, I got a whiff and thought it must be a kid eating them and hoped they hadn't put their grubby orange fingers all over the clothes. Then I sidled up to this woman who was browsing the jeans and realised, nope, it was her. She's a massive walking cheesy wotsit.

Shame because I quite like wotsits.

whyhastherumgone · 22/05/2018 12:28

Grim. Think I've just gone off cheesy wotsits - good news for the diet though!

MrsJayy · 22/05/2018 12:29

Cheesey wotsit woman put me right off wotsits AND primark Envy

DesignedForLife · 22/05/2018 12:31

Eww.

That's why I always wash new clothes.

polkasha · 22/05/2018 12:42

I’ve always wondered this about hot countries. If its +30C then everyone will be sweaty, no?

DuchyDuke · 22/05/2018 12:52

@polkasha - countries where it’s regularly hot have air conditioning. The UK and a lot of parts of Europe don’t.

DuchyDuke · 22/05/2018 12:54

As in air conditioning everywhere - not just business premises. And outdoor running tends not to be favoured over indoor running - not sure anyone who could afford not to would be crazy enough to walk in dubai or India in 35-45 degree weather.

polkasha · 22/05/2018 12:57

True, but youve still got to walk to the shop a bit in the heat!

MrsJayy · 22/05/2018 12:58

I have relatives in UAE they hardly ever walk outside never mind run and places have air conditioning.
