To want the toilet flushed every time

helennnnn · 21/05/2018 20:54

Moved in with partner last year, and we don't argue about the toilet seat (it's always down) we argue about flushing the damn thing.

I believe the toilet should be flushed every time, regardless of whether it's a 1 or 2. Partner thinks it should only be flushed when it's a 2. He pees and leaves the loo unflushed and I can't stand it!

The other day he had a bath and left the loo Unflushed. The loo is next to the bath, and I was disgusted - how can he have a nice clean bath next to an unflushed toilet??

He says it's a waste of water but I don't care, I want good hygiene.

I agree, it's disgusting. It stinks.
YANBU.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 21/05/2018 20:56

Lot's of people don't flush to save water.

Princess9891 · 21/05/2018 20:56

I agree. My ex never flushed after pee and I used to really struggle shifting the resulting limescale build up.

TroubledLichen · 21/05/2018 20:58

That’s disgusting. I’m sure he has good qualities but I couldn’t live with someone that wasn’t house trained. I’m impressed you’ve last this long. For the sake of relationship I’d say move and get separate bathrooms, he’s responsible for cleaning his and he doesn’t get to use yours.

Topseyt · 21/05/2018 20:58

It must stink of stale urine.

I agree with you. Flush every time.

robotcartrainhat · 21/05/2018 20:58

We dont flush unless its a number2 during the night as its so noisy. It is very wasteful of water if you think about it too.
However I dont think you are being unreasonable because it is your house as well and clearly its really an issue for you.
He ought to consider your feelings on the matter if its that important to you....
Unless hes a dedicated environmentalist then I think he should go with what you want as your feelings about it would be stronger than his.

Shoxfordian · 21/05/2018 20:59

Disgusting. Are you sure you want to live with him?

Glumglowworm · 21/05/2018 21:01

YANBU

I can understand not flushing wee at night if you have noisy plumbing. But otherwise it should be flushed every time. Get a water saving thing for the cistern if you’re trying to save water.

VerbenaBoriensis · 21/05/2018 21:03

Bloody infuriating isn't it??!! Had this one for a while till I googled the actual cost. (we are on a water meter)Showed OH as proof-job done. (he flushed 'jobs'not wee but does now)

Frustratedboarder · 21/05/2018 21:04

Compromise by putting a water displacement object in the tank to reduce the amount of water going from each flush? You can nearly halve your water consumption per flush this way (providing you can easily access your tank!)....

I'm also of the 'if it's yellow let it mellow' school but I seem to have rather odourless pee... Oh on the other hand Must flush everytime as his pee is rank smelling! Envy

GrannyHaddock · 21/05/2018 21:05

Unflushed wee stains the ceramic eventually, so requires strong chemicals to clean it. How does that help the planet?

HolyMountain · 21/05/2018 21:08

If it’s yellow
Then it’s mellow
If it’s brown
Flush it down.

I disagree entirely with the above sentiment which my ds3-18 swears by.

I loathe an flushed loo, someone at my workplace leaves the loo unflushed after a pee.

rwalker · 21/05/2018 21:09

use cistern blocks those that colour the water and have disinfectant in

OnThisHill · 21/05/2018 21:09

Flush every time.
I agree, how can he have a nice clean bath if there's wee in the loo.
Mind you, I wash my hands and clean my teeth before I shower... Hmm

StormcloakNord · 21/05/2018 21:15

We flush during the day but if we pee at night we don't flush til the morning. Too noisy and wakes everyone.

Ontheboardwalk · 21/05/2018 21:21

Nope, flush every time unless having a wee when everyone else is asleep and it would disturb them.

Is he worried about wasting water? If so get one of those bricks that reduce the amount of water used each flush.

SensoryOverlord · 21/05/2018 21:25

Obviously in the minority but I often don't flush after a wee.

If you're adequately hydrated it doesn't 'stink' at all and you probably would have to inspect the toilet to tell there's even wee in there - mine is pretty colourless.

If your oh's wee is bright yellow and/or smells strongly, never mind the flushing, encourage him to drink some water!

Fatted · 21/05/2018 21:25

My DH doesn't flush at night and it drives me insane!

Ihearafanfare · 21/05/2018 21:27

I don’t flush after every wee. It’s not very environmentally friendly. Plus those of you saying their wee stinks probably need to drink more or see a doctor. My wee only ever (sometimes) smells first thing, never any other time. And my ceramic isn’t stained yellow as my wee isn’t yellow

SabineUndine · 21/05/2018 21:28

I don’t flush after a wee but I live on my own. It’s only me seeing it.

GrannyHaddock · 21/05/2018 21:45

Out ceramic went brown; only caustic soda managed to clean it.

blaaake · 21/05/2018 21:52

Ew, I couldn't live with someone like that. Flush every time, standard.

As an aside, why do so many people say that flushing the toilet at night wakes people up? I can't even hear the toilet being flushed during the day!

thegreatbeyond · 21/05/2018 21:55

Grim.

SaltyPeanut · 21/05/2018 22:01

When we moved to our current home it was obvious that the previous resident was a single male. When we viewed there was no electric on, no window in the small separate WC, it was an overcast day and the landlord had put a new toilet seat on with a plastic cover to indicate hygiene (duplicitous bugger). The shock when illumination was finally returned to the room! There were soaked in tide marks in the actual wood of piss all over the skirting board, the door was close to the bowl and sticky with yellow splashback lumps. The bowl had such a calcium build up, about 8mm thick above and below the water line, it took four bottles of Harpic Max to just loosen it.

I wish I'd took a photo, I would have let you have it to show your DP.

So in short, no I don't think YBU.

YetAnotherUser · 21/05/2018 22:02

Water is a resource flushing toilets is a major use of it. I don't judge anyone that conserves water by trying not to, quite literally, just flush it down the toilet.
