Definitely the case in some places. A nail bar in my town was recently raided by the police in the middle of the day as it had come to light that the majority of the people working there were trafficked. Sad

StickThatInYourPipe · 22/05/2018 07:36

All the staff in my local one speak English and all seem quite happy and chatty. They are not too expensive but do accept cards. My last one was the polar opposite of this, very little English and cash only. They were all Vietnamese where as my new one has a mix of cultures, mostly Indian tbh.

LlamaFarma · 22/05/2018 07:44

Hmm. Mine local nail bar seems to be a family of 4 and they do chat and laugh together sometimes. Cash only though.

NukaColaGirl · 22/05/2018 07:46

My local nail bar was raided last year Sad

MrsMollyMooMoo · 22/05/2018 07:51

I'm sure there is a nail bar in the Metro Centre that is like this but I'm also sure that checks would be done. They only take cash as well.

JustGettingStarted · 22/05/2018 08:51

Cash only isn't necessarily dodgy. The fees on small transactions cut into the margins.

Iruka · 22/05/2018 09:00

If anyone is concerned please know that you can make an anonymous report to Crimestoppers either by phone or on their website

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 22/05/2018 09:05

Might do just that. Another place beside me (there are TONS) has plenty folk who I get the impression may be trafficked.

How do you know or suspect someone is trafficked? I’m sure there’s a link somewhere. But you know when something just doesn’t feel “right”? That.

Perhaps the Police, Home Office and Immigration could look into these businesses then. After all, that is what they are paid to do and the are not exactly hiding are they as they are on every High Street.

ThePrincipal · 22/05/2018 17:19

Yanbu

I have thought the same.

ThePrincipal · 22/05/2018 17:20

Exactly user, they are not exactly hiding in plain sight.....they are there for all to see.

QuackPorridgeBacon · 22/05/2018 17:22

Since I was a kid (now 24) I’ve lived in London and here is always Asian women doing nails. Any nail shop (lots on the same street) was always Asians doing the nails. I’m not sure about trafficking so won’t get into it but I did always wonder why, I just assumed they were good at nails, as a kid I thought that.

Magpiemagpie · 22/05/2018 17:26

The nail bars where I live will only take cash and always have done
However the one I use mainly seems to be a family run business husband wife daughter cousins and friends

The ladies and guys that have been doing my nails for the past 3 years have pretty much stayed the same people and some have left and come back

The owner has just had her second baby

They all go home to Vietnam to visit family once or twice a year for a month and all seem to be working freely

I’ve actually met up with one of them when I was on holiday in Vietnam last year and I met their parents and other family members

QuackPorridgeBacon · 22/05/2018 17:57

MrsMarigold Did you rent the room to them?

MrsMarigold · 22/05/2018 20:43

No we decided against it, we felt bad for the girls but I was pregnant and did not want to deal with the man who came around with them. It still makes me worried.

QuackPorridgeBacon · 22/05/2018 21:04

MrsMarigold That’s completely understandable. Those poor girls though. Would they have been left alone while staying there? If you weren’t pregnant would you have been able to help them do you think?

QuackPorridgeBacon · 22/05/2018 21:08

Sorry for the questions.

MrsMarigold · 22/05/2018 22:03

I'm not sure, DH is very cautious but I might have tried to help them but would not have wanted them living with us. I Once met another who had been trafficked, she worked at a pub near the Museum of London. Awful, I tried to help her by arranging a job interview at another pub that I knew was ok, but never heard how it turned out.

QuackPorridgeBacon · 22/05/2018 23:20

That’s awful. It must be hard knowing such things. I haven’t come across anyone that’s being trafficked but that’s probbaly because I don’t leave my house much. I watched a short tv series, a drama, about human trafficking and it was heart breaking and I’ve been scared of it all ever since. I was quite young when I watched it and I sometimes wish I hadn’t seen it, it was quite scary. I think I was around 12 maybe.
