The Secret

I'm literally not being unreasonable 😀.

Just wondered if anyone has read this book by Rhonda Byrne?

Will it change my life? 😬😀

I'm depressed, unmotivated and stuck in a rut.

It's a bestseller, but wanted some feedback on here before I part with my limited money!

Thank you

Best sellers are usually shit.

Feliciaxxx · 20/05/2018 23:00

I read it quite a few years ago and it made a positive difference to me. The Art of being Brilliant by Andy Cope is also well worth a read.

coffeelaydee · 20/05/2018 23:00

So I take it you've not read it?!

Thanks felicia. Is it a bit far out? Is it an easy read?

If you’re worried about wasting money, why not see if your local library stocks it?

Feliciaxxx · 20/05/2018 23:12

The Art of being Brilliant is probably more user friendly. A suspension of disbelief is needed for The Secret but there were aspects of it that resonated with me. The library idea is a good one actually. I was in a similar situation to you when I read them both. I need to read them again!!

PercyPigAddict · 20/05/2018 23:18

It's a very easy read but it's very simplistic, which I think puts people off. If you do a search for Esther Hicks on youtube she explains the law of attraction in a more "realistic" way.

The Secret is a very poor take on the law of attracting imo. I wouldn't recommend it.

You'd be better off with think and grow rich by napoleon Hill, the book that inspired the secret.

meadowofflowers · 20/05/2018 23:41

Just watch the free YouTube movie on it

mumtoaboywhosgreat · 20/05/2018 23:49

It's ok. But a bit shit on its topic. If you're not familiar with LoA then it's possibly going to be motivating or possibly going to be absolute twaddle

I found hopononono meditation far more productive than LoA tbh but its same principle without grandiose claims you can win the lottery tomorrow if you really believe it

The idea is that EVERYTHING that happens in your life, YOU are responsible for - see a homeless person - you did that, see a beautiful newborn - you did that, win the lottery - you did that, terminal illness - you did that

And you repeat over "im sorry, I love you, please forgive me, thank you" until you feel peace from your emotions

Much better explanations on YouTube

If you like LoA then Neville Goddard is your man

Lellochip · 20/05/2018 23:50

It's a crock of shit that basically plays on the idea that you can gain unlimited materialistic success and avoid all life's misfortunes by playing pretend.

Found it laughable, until I read the "Got cancer? Should've pretended harder" chapter, then it just made me Angry

I'm ALL for positive mental attitude, but because of the knock-on good effects it has on all your interactions and opportunities etc, not because the Universe is keeping score and paying out on the imaginary shopping lists of those who know The Secret.

baddreamsgoaway · 21/05/2018 08:19

Esther hicks seems like a fraud tbh - I think you have to be really woo to accept her channeling alien entities

No wonder she's got rich though. Not sure LoA had much to do with it

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 21/05/2018 08:24

What Lellochip said. It's a load of pseudo-scientific bollocks.

MissCharleyP · 21/05/2018 08:25

A friend lent it to me a few years ago. My DF, DM and me enjoyed it, had us all crying with laughter at the trite, ‘inspirational’ claptrap that it spins.

On a serious note, it could be damaging to some people, as lellochip says, the idea that you didn’t want something enough or work hard enough for it and to say a serious illness is your responsibility...words fail me. It’s also what many MLM companies spout to their reps...total shite.

BillywilliamV · 21/05/2018 08:26

Its a pile of poop and I have read it, if just for a laugh. If you want something you have to work for it, the universe is NOT going to drop it into your lap. Its terrifying that anyone is believing this crap.

BillywilliamV · 21/05/2018 08:27

My mastectomy is entirely my own fault by the wayHmm

DevonshireCreamTea · 21/05/2018 08:28

It's on Netflix give it a watch before buying the book :)
