I've just seen an article that says that a lot of UK workers don't take their holiday entitlement.

Does anyone not take their full entitlement? I find it difficult to get holidays and have to book them far in advance - but I would never not take all my entitlement unless my boss paid me for the days that I hadn't taken. Same with working more hours - I work my lunch most days and stay late most nights, however, I wouldn't do it for nothing - I would expect to get overtime. AIBU? Is it not being a bit of a martyr not taking your full holiday entitlement?

I have no idea how anyone can NOT take their entire annual allowance,.

I get 27 + bank holidays, and I buy an extra 10 and also have to cadge a few more as TOIL as well!

Can't believe these posts. Can't believe people put up with such rubbish!

When I worked as a carer we were only allowed one person off at a time so as there were more carers than weeks available it was inevitable that you wouldn't get your full allowance.

Only mugs let their employers get away with such nonsense. It's not the employees responsibility to find cover, or to continually work excess hours and times. Employers will always take the easiest and cheapest way out. Your employers are breaking the law and will continue to do so if the employees let them.

Looks like lots of employers breaking the law together with breach of contract. No one covers my work whilst I’m away but I still take my entitlement including leaving my mobile at home.

There are several periods in the year that are incredibly busy for my role - loads of extra hours (eves and weekends). As a result, I build up a lot of TOIL. I have to use this TOIL within 1 month. By the time I've used up my TOIL, work is busy again so it's very difficult to take AL.
I always try to keep 3 days up my sleeve in case I need it for child illness.
As a result of this, I often end up taking loads of time off at the end of the holiday year when I least need it (School term time).
Very frustrating.

My DP only took 10 days off a couple of years ago but that was because the company kept on rejecting it. They then said that he could have a month off in October, which came around and they rejected it again and in the end he only ended up with 10 days off now and again over the year.

I know it's not legal but it's a very big company that you legally just can't take on.

He quit after that.
