Meghan's mum

Wasn't Meghan's Mum so dignified at the wedding ?
I know I would find it so difficult to attend such a momentous occasion with all the pomp and ceremony on my own.
I was in awe of her. Taking it all in her stride.
It was a pity that she had no good friend or relation to sit with her. I know I'd need someone.
I hope a relative or friend accompanied her ( perhaps they did not want to be in the public eye).
She must have been so proud off her beautiful daughter.
Doris herself looked lovely too.
Prince Charles was so gracious and kind.
I hope Harry and Meghan will be very happy together.

Wow

What is utter bollocks is how the media and institutions ignore or downplay the obviously racist public comments made by certain members of the royal family.....and that we're all supposed to pretend that racism doesn't exist in royal circles....or affect anything they do....

SweetBabyJebus · 20/05/2018 20:52

Jesus christ. Don't you think if Meghan WANTED Harry to meet her father, then it would have happened at any stage they wanted? Don't you think if Meghan had WANTED any additional family there, they would have been there? Don't you think if Doria WANTED a friend to sit with, she would have had it? Why in christ's name do people project so much? They had the wedding, bridal party, and guest list that they fucking wanted!! There are enough threads here in Relationships about toxic families and people being non contact with their immediate family. What's to say Meghan couldn't be one of them? We know next to NOTHING about how she feels about her family and how involved she wants them to be in her life. Let the woman fucking be already.

onalongsabbatical Off topic- sorry but when you said 'Melania' had been autocorrected on a Trump tweet, I remembered terrible autocorrect of her name that happened and changed it to "Melanoma" ! Ouch!

downplay the obviously racist public comments made by certain members of the royal family

Can you give examples?

Not being today. Genuinely interested

I think Meghan’s Mum was beautiful and dignified
Full stop
She rocked a nose ring and dreadlocks and vogue loved it . Ravishing yet understated in that pistachio green

Didn’t court the cameras or press but was warm .. a natural , holistic warmth ( a yoga teacher and physiotherapist so just slightly a people person )
I also think she is a stunning , natural woman like her daughter and an inspirational role model to single mothers

I saw no sidelining
I hope like her I myself would quietly sit back and observe my daughters wedding . Not feel the need to overshadow
For all we know her wishes were very much being respected .
I saw a beautiful day full of love and fusion , with a hearty dose of the glamour So many of us love .
With 2 beautiful young people at the heart of it . 2 people I expect great things of .

I would imagine the queen ( dressed in joyful citrus shades not protesting beige — what an awesome granny ) and Doria Markle like each other very much
I hope they did shots together at the after party once the cameras buggered off . Perhaps an arm wrestle with Camilla ( amazing hat ) with Fergie keeping score . A proper party . I hope they all had the hangover from Hell this morning .
In my humble view only the press and public pulled the “ black and proud card “ An embaressing card in this day and age

I don’t feel the royals need to modernise — they have .
I feel our press does

Sweetbabyjesus - just that I think you need to calm down a little!!!! Having initially stated that her father was to walk her down the aisle and given that he was to meet senior members of the royal family before the wedding hardly suggests she is non contact with her father Hmm.

Yes she has a disjointed family and is obviously no contact with most of her step / half siblings - and I don't blame her if it is true how her half sister treated her mother.

Harry and Meghan have been together 18 months or so - I think I heard stated yesterday (or that may have been when it was confirmed 'officially') it's irrelevant anyway. It is still odd that Harry has not met her Father.

Well done them to having their wedding their way - absolutely agree with that.

She behaved with such dignity, but it seemed sad she was the only member of meghan's family there.

steff13 · 20/05/2018 21:58

Meghan is not black, she is American and over in her country, you’re either black or white, there’s no in between.

Here in America, she's referred to as biracial.

SweetBabyJebus · 20/05/2018 22:05

I'm perfectly calm Samesituation. And I never said she was non contact with her father. I just think asinine comments proclaiming why they did or did not do something or other when we don't know jack about the actual realities and intricacies is tiresome.

SenecaFalls · 20/05/2018 22:11

Meghan is not black, she is American and over in her country, you’re either black or white, there’s no in between.

Here in the States, we tend to go with what people call themselves. Meghan generally refers to herself as biracial, and that is how she is referred to in the US.

Flyingpompom · 20/05/2018 22:14

How can someone just state that in America, there is no in between? What if you're mixed race? The idea that you must deny one side of your cultural background is frankly offensive. My children are mixed race...no one can just state that there is no such thing!

greenlanes · 20/05/2018 22:19

when did biracial come in as a term in the US? Lived in the US 25 years ago and never once heard that. Living and working as I did in DC with a totally mixed (in all sorts of ways) set of colleagues. It mirrored what I was used to in London.

BMW6 · 20/05/2018 22:30

I am at a loss to understand how the Royal Family can be accused of racism when it was up to Meghan who she chose to invite from her family, and her only close relative who was invited and chose to attend is black!!!
Come on HeebieJeebies456 - you tell us what other black relatives of ms markle were barred from attending by the RF? And your evidence to support your accusation.

Samesituation · 20/05/2018 22:46

Please correct me if im wrong but i believe Meghan doesn't actually have any other black relatives. I'm sure I read that her mother was an only child and her maternal grandparents are deceased. I may be wrong.

SenecaFalls · 20/05/2018 23:03

What if you're mixed race?

We are used to this concept in the US, too. For example, the golfer Tiger Woods is mixed-race and that's how he and everyone else refers to him, if the question of his race comes up.

SenecaFalls · 20/05/2018 23:08

When did biracial come in as a term in the US?

I don't know for sure, but the first person that I got to know well who had one black parent and one white parent was 30 years ago. And she referred to herself as biracial.

Barack Obama is sometimes referred to as biracial. In his books, he talks about finding his racial identity, which he identifies as black. So he is usually referred to as black.

SenecaFalls · 20/05/2018 23:11

Also I think also the term multiracial is often used for someone with several racial heritages.
