First Father's Day- missing it

DD will be almost a year old on Father's Day. First child so it will be DH's first Father's Day. He knows I've made him a gift from DD but not what. I'd invited both our parents down so grandads could be involved too, although his parents aren't sure if they can attend yet & he is aware of this. His parents are currently trying to rearrange plans to be there.

DH wants to visit his brother who he will be seeing the following weekend at DD's first birthday party. He feels Father's Day isn't a big deal & DD is too young to know about it anyway so he should be able to spend the weekend away elsewhere. I feel he should want to spend the day with DD without me having to argue with him.

AIBU?

@FizzyGreenWater thanks Thanks i really appreciate your response. Perhaps I was being U thinking that he should want to spend the day together because of it being fathers' day but my main annoyance comes from the changing of plans & when I suggest anything whether it be taking DD to a farm, zoo, aquarium, baby class together, his default is that she's too young so there's no point so we don't do anything as a family of 3 without me having to argue for it. If I didn't, we just wouldn't do anything together & we'd spend the weekend at home probably in different rooms or I'd take DD out while he does household chores or has his brother to visit so I saw this day as a good opportunity to try to spend some time together.

You are also right in that GPs don't automatically equal childcare when DH is away. Neither sets have spent a great deal of time with DD for various reasons so at present are more of a visitor role than being able to help out with practical things for her. Although we are starting to work on that!

I did ask if I was being U, so I really appreciate all of the input & I've definitely noted not to expect to spend Father's Day all together in future as it seems that isn't the norm although I do think some people have extrapolated my post into making huge assumptions on being precious, controlling etc which I think is a little unnecessary but hey ho, it is AIBU & I appreciate every response. Smile

My OH is in the forcs so pretty much misses everything (a lot of guys miss their kids being born) and you learn that these “occasions” really don’t matter, enjoy the moments you do have.
